Electrical Question *URGENT*

B

B. Self Reliant

As mentioned by the other folks, you can run 120 or 240 for lamps. The only difference is the number of amps you'll be drawing, which in most rooms means that if you're running 120 volts, then you'll have to put in extra outlets. If you use the 240 you can put them all on the same outlet.

Usually what dictates volts is what kind of outlets are already available, & what your ballasts are wired for. If you have a 240 circuit, and your ballasts are 240, then your choice has been made for you unless you enjoy extra work.

Smaller grows are different, but a 4k grow usually needs extra outlets and circuits in order to run that much power. You might luck out and find a 240 outlet somewhere other than a kitchen or garage, but most homes don't have too many of them.

In this economy There are alot of out of work electricians. See craigs list. Some are highly qualified. They are looking for side work no questions asked ie no permits. Open your wallet go to the atm pull out cash. This is not worth your life, property, freedom, etc etc etc. Please be safe.

ur kidding right????

people are not stupid..they'll know what you're doing when u ask for all that power.its not worth the security risk. might have the guy snooping around when hes gone and possibly extort ur ass since times are so rough.

NO CRAIGSLIST E;ECTRICIANS

EDUCATE YOURSELF...its really not that hard to run a couple of new circuits. read read read..and dont do anything until ur ready..

trust me..dialing all this shit in is going to be alot harder than running new circuits....

Find the room you want to grow in. Tell the electrician you need to put in a server for a home office to run a web site. You can ask for a L6-30 r outlet for the server ups. That gives you 30 amps 240v with a nuetral and have him add the 20 amp dedicated circuit for a portable ac too. He can probably bring the circuit through an outside wall in emt or in the attic with romex. If he asks about internet connections and all that tell him that the work will be done in about a month for that. After he is done then set up your room however you want.

You can also educate yourself on how to do electrcal work safely. There are some very good electricians that have responded to this thread. They will all responsibly tell you to hire someone.

Just dont wear that dirty hippy tie-die t-shirt when he shows up and say , "uh-uh, dude, buddy" a lot....

Sorry guys, new here, first post...

Electrical can be scarey. It can KILL you faster than anything else in our little hobby.
So here are my rules for working with lightening.
1. Always turn off ALL the breakers.
(I live in a house with some fucked up wireing and I've flipped breakers and had stuff backfeeding and shocked myself.)

2. Go to hardware store and get a tester. It lights up and beeps if it senses any current.
They cost less than $20

3. Always wear rubber soled shoes.

some sub rules:
dont lick your fingers
dont stand in water
use real connectors not 3 inch wads of electrical tape.

Are you planning to grow in the kitchen of this new house and not use the stove? :)

If your ballasts are 120v you could just have an electrician install 2 30 amp 120v breakers and run them to regular outlets in the room and you could just say it is going to be your computer room where your servers will be and you need them on dedicated circuits. Best of luck with the new setup.

True but you obviously can't do that in a rental. Get this and everything stays the same:

So what exactly do you tell an electrician what you need?

So never grab someone and pull them away if they are being electrocuted. Because then the coroner might have two bodies instead of one.
.

turn off the electrical supply b4 u approach them then try to push them away from where there connected with a broom or non conductive object .

if your unsure of any electrical works and not happy calling an electrician ,goto night school and learn ,education never killed anybody but diy kills 1000's each year .i recently started a course and its really enjoyable and very satisfying .,when i wired up my first lighing circuit and it worked i felt absolutely brilliant :woohoo:

please just stay safe

thats a very hard question ,,

why would you need all the extra power when most houses have more than adequate electrical services ?

No, I mean, do I tell them I need a new circuit breaker or what? I'm not exactly sure What I'll need for about 2000 watts of power..

Tell him you operate a computer company out of your house and you need extra circuits to power the servers.
