Ok, times are hard and weed cost too much... So what is a pothead to do? Well a lot of us just plain' ol' don't smoke, and for some that works just fine, but I am a different breed, I will not give up on getting high, it is one of my goals in life.
Picture this scenario: You are young, or old, you are broke, and you have no weed.
This scenario is what I call ground zero, it is a terrible place to be, something had to have crumbled for you to be here.
Living in the trenches long enough will teach you a few tricks, and here is a few valuable lessons I have learned from laying in the trenches...
If you need something to smoke, and you have a flowering plant(s) that is in week 4 (depending on strain), you don't have to go out and buy weed. I will teach you how to smoke off a plant that is at least 4 weeks into flowering, while still letting the plant finish till it is prime.
At week 4 (depending on strain) you can start picking off the lowest bud sites on the branch (remove just the bud site, leave the leaf underneath intact with the plant), these should go anyway because these will hardly grow anymore than they already have, especially if they are behind a shadow of another branch... Pick about 4-7 of these popcorns.
Next, the biggest problem most people have is this next step, how does one quick dry the bud? There is no way to 'quick dry' at week 4 and get a good tasting smoke, your going to have to let it dry for a day and a night in front of your exhaust fan which is both dry and slightly above room temp. If you don't have an exhaust fan, pull the bud apart into individual calyxes and let them dry in a paper bag, will take a day longer.
The other way to utilize your popcorns is by making quick wash iso hash. put the popcorns in a clean jar with a tablespoon or 2 of isopropyl alcohol and shake the jar *vigorously* for about 45 seconds, then pour the alcohol onto a warm plate on top of a pot of steaming water, this will help the iso alcohol evaporate in a minute. scrape the plate with a razor and smoke whats on the razor. *note: make sure that after you shake the jar and pour out the alcohol onto the plate, that you use a stainless steele strainer or a fork to catch debris from going onto the warm plate. This will make you .1 of iso. You can make iso until your other popcorns have dried.
make those popcorns last you till the one of the top colas is ready enough to take. I have found that doing this will save me money I don't have. I hope this helps someone that has a plant but is lost on how to smoke it. It's really not worth it to spend money on herb, If i had to put a price on what I think a pound is really worth, it would be a penny...
