Cannabis & Dreams Discussion

M

If I smoke daily I don't dream AT ALL. It's like it shuts off my brain & smothers dreams. If I stop, I start dreaming. Weed kills my dreams, it's unfortunate.

One of the main reasons I smoke is so that my brain slows down. If not for cannabis I would be up all night, I don't remember my dreams, but at least I get some sleep.

Wow I've haerd this a few times through the years so there must be something to it.It doesn't have an effect on me probably because I've smoke for about 35 years nonstop lol.I know even when I write it it sounds ridiculous but even in prison I gots mine lol.The only breaks I can remember was 6 months in the county jail and 6 for an inpatient drug program.I seem to dream pretty regularly,I cant remember much of them but I think thats normal.I do appreciate some good quality dreamtime though

Also, if I go for a piss close to get-up time, or go back to sleep after waking, then I have very vivid dreams - again, I think waking, even for a short time, overrides the memory loss, or provides enough of a kick to the conscious brain to start 'remembering'. Like I said, this proves the dreams are still there, it's just the ability to recognise them that's (temporarily) disabled...:)

Regardless of how much i have smoked, when i go back to sleep after waking up for a morning piss etc...i always dream...

Anyone ever had a dream of their bed falling all of a sudden?

and..

When you are trying to run in a dream/nightmare, you just can't seem to actually move as fast/get away?

I can deal with nightmares...its like being awake.

I do frequently have the "stone feet" dreams and they are not enjoyable at all.I seem to have the naked in public dreams a little too frequently for my liking too

Cannabis suppresses REM sleep, so it would make sense that you recall fewer dreams if you smoke before you go to sleep (you dream in REM). Also have read that when sleep deprived, people tend to stay in REM longer than normal. So if you stop smoking, you might be spending more time in REM, leading to more vivid dreams.

i had a dream last night (hadn't smoked in like a day or two) that i was driving a ford escape, a station wagon version, a white one, and i kept making wrong turns and starting over and i eventually handbrake parked on someones front porch and then like drove off without damaging the property and i think there were two black guys involved.

if i smoke and take a sleepig pill b4 bed i have hella crazy dreams all night... its fun though bc some are really cool vivid dreams... i don't really have too many nightmares i guess because the weed has me in a good mood... when i dream alot at night i wake up more refreshed. i did some reading on this and i think the dreams help my subconscious work out problems during the night so i don't wake up feeling frustrated or anxious

personally i rather enjoy not dreaming

i find most if not all of my dreams unpleasant anyway "nightmares" if you will but not always so intense; but mostly disturbing when i wake up

the falling forever dream is definatly the worst, just imagine youve been pushed off a giant cliff and your just waiting to hit the ground for your enitre dream with that horrible falling feeling in your gut - usually wake up right as im hitting the ground

when i was on probation and couldnt smoke i started dreaming again and i hated it

other dreams that used to haunt me were the home invasion dream which usually involves me getting shot

or the car accident dream also

when i was young i had better dreams!!! would dream i was playing baseball and hitting home run after home run or of course my favorites the "wet" dream lol... i think that one needs no explaination

For me most dreams are not good. Therefore the side effect of not dreaming is appreciated .

I smoke every day and rarely dream, but when I do it's usually
brought on by the sleep meds I take (ambien). Drug fueled and
vivid as a mother fucker I wake up feelin' sketchy each time.......

Ive always suspected that cannabis's effect on dreams (or lack of) is directly linked to short term memory loss.

Many people/scientists believe dreams are the brains way of processing the 'days events' so to speak, processing the information/input that has gone in over the day and then committing it to memory.
As cannabis has an effect on rem sleep it disrupts this 'dream' process and then therefore has a negative effect on short term memory.

Maybe a few smoke free nights would help improve short term memory as well as giving some crazy intense dreams!!? maybe we should have a group experiment!!

I used to not dream at all, but now I dream every night, fairly normal dreams. I still smoke everyday, but i did give up tobacco, that seemed to help. I think it might be a sign of disturbed sleep if you don't, probably not good.

I just thought that when there's alot of weed around I just naturally partyed harder than normal and thus sleep is more of a crash landing. Now that I think about it, I do have more dreams when not smoking.

Anyone ever have the tightrope nightmare? When your walking on a tightrope and you can see nothing in front, behind or underneath, just darkness?

I basically smoked all day long yesterday and dreamed all night long,as usual. If there has been any effect it happened so long ago I didn't even think about it coming.I'm still not convinced there is any correlation although I have to say,it seems to affect many people

I'd say you're out of the norm, sparkjumper. I wish I was like you, too. I like dreaming, whether it's strange, nightmarish, flying or whatever.
Honestly I want the zombie dreams that someone was talking about earlier, that sounds cool. Also, I don't fly enough!
But yea cannabis makes me forget my dreams. It only takes 1 or 2 days to get them back, which I think tells us something about how long term the effects of cannabis are for us... I dunno.

I hate this one thing though. Does anyone else have dreams where they have to get into a fight for some reason (dreams never make sense) and your fists move as if through water or something? You just have no strength. It's the sketchiest feeling.

And as for the home invasion dreams, I would not like that at all. That is probably my worst fear. I don't want to have to do what I would have to do if that happened.

I used to be a profuse dreamer and remember most of it, even during my first years of smoking. But since 2 or 3 years, it has been more & more difficult to remember them. Like most people, any break brings in, from the very first day, or rather night, wild & ultra-vivid, very complex dreams.
I miss remembering my dreams, as I used to get a lot from them; Especially those where I was flying (swimming "frog-style" in the airs), always made me wake up with a super positive mood. I like those where I drive a car, as i have no licence, and therefore no car, it is always pretty funny.

During my years of heavy non-cannabic-entheogen uses I had a recurrent dream where my arm gets like paralyzed. Often need to open a door and as I raise the arm to grab the door-knob, it get stuck, no way to move it further. I then concentrate extra-hard on my arm so as to get it to move and grab that knob, but result only in a shaky arm. Then I woke up. At the very junction of sleepness & awakeness, I could actually feel that my arm was shaking not only in my dream but for real ! Didn't happened since a few years, and i don't miss it eheh...

No nightmare since early childhood, good.

Irie !
