What should I do with these seeds?

So I was doing some organizing and ran across my box that has all of my old seeds in it and found three NL #1 and two Ruderalis Indica mixed seeds and I am not sure what I should do with them.

They were ordered in 1988 for a friend and took like nine months to arrive and were forwarded to a new address because we had moved. Was shocked as hell when they showed up in the mail one day.

At first I was all excited and was going to try and pop them but then what?

I am not ready to tackle breeding yet so should I just hang on to them?

Unfortunately the viability of those seeds is probably getting worse all the time and that's why I'd advice against waiting for later to pop them.

If you find a good NL girl you can keep her around as a mom. Why not a good NL boy too if you plan on doing some breeding in the future.

The Ruderalis Indicas you probably won't be able to keep as mothers/fathers as they will undoubtedly start flowering even with the lights on 24 hours a day. So if they are of separate sexes you should pollinate the girl... and if both are of the same sex maybe do a cross. No need to tackle breeding in any way yet just get some pollen on some buds... :)

give'm a soak with a lil rooting hormone, maybe scar them a little first. Take cuts of everything, then open pollenate to preserve the genetics for now. Then you have as long as you like to figure out what to do with them.

Thats marvellous news....Have search on IC for some some of the 'germinating old seeds' threads, there are a few......As an example I have germed approx 320 old seeds from 89-96 over the last 2 years(various strains, some stored well and some not so well).Of those I have had 22 successes,15 nearly germs that died as 'two-leafs' and the rest 'not a peep'.
Not trying to put you off here just trying to be informative if I can.
My most successful method is to scuff the now very hard shells(in a matchbox with sandpaper),soak them for a day or 2 in CLEAN ph6 water with a FEW drops per litre of HydrogenPeroxide or plain bleach. A few drops of Supervit or other Vitamins are a good addition too in my experience. Then either put 'em inbetween moist papertowels or plant straight in Soil or your preferred medium. Do check out some threads though as many people have diff methods such as gibberelic acid and freezing and defrosting before u germ to imitate winter-spring temp raise. I have best success with temps at a constant 72-78f myself.....Good Luck and don't forget to mate 'em if u get a girl and boy or cross any single M or F with another strain so u have the genetics in the cross at least....JBo ;]

Its nice to see a catalog of 1988 of Neville's Seedbank.Do you have a photo of the description of the Mexican sativa???

If you gonna pop the seeds, use some humic acid. This will increase germination.

soak them for 24 h and if you are not scared ....use some fine sand paper and try to thin the coat of the shelll especially at the junction where it it open .

next most imortant thing is the heat pad !

not luck is the thing to wish to this guy !

you can do it !

The progency from the NL seeds could be priceless.

If you germinate them successfully you must make seeds, you have a duty to the Cannabis movement for even having those seeds still after so many years. The chances they are viable are quite low, but depending on how they were stored they very well may still germinate. They must be kept warm and wet with no cold fluctuations to germinate reliably. Make sure you soak them in WARM (like 80-85F) distilled water with a little hydrogen peroxide in it to prevent any damping off issues. Then after a good soak put them in wet warm paper towels in a sealed ziplock bag filled with your hot air exhalation.

When & if the beans pop make sure they go right in a nice professional potting soil mix like some Miracle Grow potting soil, seedling soil, etc AS SOON AS THE WHITE TAP ROOT SHOWS, do not wait and let it get long because it could be easily damaged or stunt and kill the seedling. Plant them 1/4" deep and keep it moist but not soaked until they come up. Don't mess around with starter plugs or rockwool cubes or home mixed soils with these because alot can go wrong and store bought soil is far more reliable with seeds this valuable. Keep them warm the whole time and be patient as they could take up to a week or longer to germinate after being in basically hibernation for so long. If they do pop please keep us updated because those F2's or selfed S1's of that NL could seriously be very deisreable and is a genetic treasure in the Cannabis world. Notice is say's that they are true breeding for the NL #1. Some have claimed the SPG (Sweet Pink Grapefruit) came from this same NL #1 gene pool and is in fact a rare NL #1 phenotype selection.
