6' Indoor with smart pots?

Grow Clean.... Go Fast!
Hey, we are going to be experimenting a little. Ok, alot! We are attempting to grow organically, complete with teas (a little nervous!) and would like to try out a couple of different pot types. We are a legal grow and therefore limited in plant number, but not size (we made our ceilings over 11' tall). So we want to go big. What size of smart pots should we use? Should we try as little as 10 gallon? Or stick to 15s and larger?

Thanks!

4-5k. Vert.
Veg until 2.5 to 3'.

Growing trees!

15 gallon at min? How large at max?
I am thinking no more than 25g, but I have seen some nice trees with up to 45g, but is this a waste of space???

You could get away with smaller containers and still grow huge trees, say 10 gallons, if you go coco. Look into it, if you haven't already.

i would be more worried about the quality of the soil rather than size of the pot.

normal soil in 10 gallon = decent harvest, smokeable buds
good soil in 10 gallon = good harvest, good buds
quality soil in 10 gallon =big trees, high quality buds

but personally i would go with something much bigger. like small rubbermaid tubs and put them on movers with wheels for make things easy on the person tending them. you will have 2-3 ft plants in no time at all.

Yeah, I don't feel like we are ready to try coco yet, but I am intrigued. For now I think we are going to try 15g smart pots, with.... QUALITY soil...:dance:

I've never used anything more than a 3.3 gallon pot, but I run only a 600 watt hps. However, I've been thinking about moving to 5 gallon pots to see what kind of difference it would make. You definately can't make that decision without thinking about watering and nutes. Just the amount of water I worry about concerning additives from the city I live in takes too much of my time. My next puchase is a RO machine.

all tree grows in soil ive seen are done in trashcans so 20-30 gallons.

See, to me this is why this is an importan question. I have read that some are overkill and then I have read that "bigger is better".

The book I am reading says that a study showed that mj could not take advantage of anyting that was larger than 16" wide and 10" deep I think. So a 15g. smart pot would put me above that figure. I think even a 10g would be somewhere around there. Any other opinions before I buy everything???

If you think a 15g would be close, and your not sure, then you should do it, it's the only way you'll know for sure. Figure your watts per square foot, nutes, water and air flow, and run it. Don't forget to report back!!

OK, sounds good. I will. We will be recording EVERYTHING! Brand new room, going organic, brewing teas, 1500w lights, and growing vert. All new for us! Going to keep lots of notes... Hopefully you will be bored by the end!

If your talking about 5x1000 w lights and 5 or 6 big trees then Id go with trashcan size, sunshine mix/pro mix is cheap and once you break the rootball apart you will get an idea, atleast with the bigger containers you can water less.

Yeah, I changed up a little because I can get the 1500w. So now I am going 4 X !500. Trashcan size seems WAY too big though, right? I can legally grow 18 plants right now and would like to be able to fit 30 in this room. What do you think?
