ICMAGS Minifridge Clubhouse

ok, just bought a couple of 6 cu.ft mini fridges, what size is in the pics??? looks like a 4.5 cu.ft mini fridge, i could be wrong, but i got a couple of the biggest ones i could find.

Ive got everything else since im downscaling from a pretty large grow, just gotta wire up some 50w hps ballasts. Gonna run 4 of them in each fridge. You guys want a pro mini fridge grow, well, its on its way.

lmao hell ya man you have any pics of the fridges? my fridge is a 4.4 cubic foot. ihavent really checked to see if thats the entire area or just the fridge portion, il have to go figure that up and see.

edit:just did some figureing and the entire unit together weighs in at 7.4543 cubic feet, after gutting and installation of the MDF walls and floors. fridge protion is 4.7385 cubic feet while the freezer is 2.7158 cubic feet.

disfunktional, I wonder if the 4.4 figure represents the combined fridge/freezer space? You gained quite a bit of room and is seems like there's more than .08 cubic feet increase in the fridge.

Maybe I'm doing the math wrong, lol.
4.7385 / 4.4 = 1.077

Anyway, whatever the increase, it seems well worth the trouble from the pics. Any plan to modify the door interior? That freezer door shelf might come in handy?

Maybe I should quit being so pesky and just watch Picasso create his masterpiece, lol.

IMO, this will be one of the best clubs at IC. You guys are gonna spawn a plethora of fridge/freezer growers.:D

i purchased them online, so ill post pics when i get them,

so, i need to gut the fridge?? i am a hand diy'er so i can figure it out i guess, and if fabrication is in order, then so be it, i was just hoping that this was gonna be an easy setup, should be, its so much smaller than a full size tent!

i think you are right about that, after all i did fill 5 13 gallon garbage bags with all the insulation. as far as the fridge door goes im thinking of cutting the plastic out and leaveing most of the insulation in tact. reason being is that, i know no one will ever here it but... , i want it to sound like a regular fridge door when it shuts not a hollowed out door. my plans for the freezer door are about the same but i will be removeing slightly more insulation to house the electronics for Arduino controller. im not completely sure about that because i have absolutely no experience with electronics nor programming such things. but i do have time and persistence....idk we will see.:muahaha:

edit: thanx for the kind words. i feel the same way you do theres so much you can do with a mini fridge and there are so many different types.

no need to gut the fridge at all. its all a matter of if you want the extra space or not. im sure there will be other mini fridgers here thatl tell ya that its a pain in the ass, but the space gained is worth the effort.

i was thinking that there has got to be an easier way to gut the insulation and came up with tan idea... try takeing a 12", or longer if you can find 1, and bend a 90 degree offset the thickness of the insulation and put it in a sawz all and gutting should be sped up considerably. idk just a thought might be worth a try.if nobody tries it i will when i start my next mini fridge build this summer.

cant wait to see the pics of your fridge!!

Are you a fabricator by trade? Even some design engineers have trouble conceiving fab jigs. Will be handy to have you around when we run into some interesting situations.

Wanna good laugh? I'm going disfunktional on an old pc case as we speak. Just as I suspected, tearing it apart was easy. Now I get to trick it out like your fridge. Glad I have the visual references for inspiration.

Try a freezer with double steel wall construction. The best things in life usually take a bit of work.

Yep, took me over 4 SOLID hours to gut my minifridge and the door. Not only do you gain space, but it helps keep the heat in check as well. Be warned though, it does degrade the integrity of the minifridge itself a bit, making it a tad bit flimsy. But 100% worth the effort looking back on it...not saying that I would do it again but... :bashhead::bashhead:

I used a sharp knife to cut away the plastic inner shell, then used both a wide and narrow paint scraper to scrape the foam out. Do NOT, I repeat do NOT try burning it out, it is flame retardant and smells like burnt hair!! Dont know wtf we were thinking trying that haha!!

Good Luck!

im not a dedicated fab shop hand but i do quite a bit of fabrication in my line of work, but iv always loved tareing shit apart and putting it back together bigger and better.

lol hell ya. i plan on doing a pc eventually, that shits true micro growing man.

i know what you mean about it being flimsy. theres no way mine would've worked, being gutted, with out the MDF board for added support.

hey trip i forgot to hit the multi quote button when i went to post so i copiedd and pasted

I can tell ya gutting a mini fridge is for sure a pain in the ass!

Has anyone else besides me taken the hump out by bending it outwards and resealing it? you get a lot more room on the bottom of the mini fridge that way ;).

LOL, I'm just glad it's not my flower box. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some efficient SCROGS in a pc but I'm too much the fiend for that.

Sorry about the sloppy looking inside...it got to the point where I just wanted it done...white spray paint, mylar, expanding foam with black spray paint to light proof. What I did was basically put the fridge on its back and started stomping on it with my foot and then fine tuning with a hammer....it fills the void in the back and all you have to do is reseal it...poof no more hump and a lot more room in the bottom, nice especially if you need the room for a hydro setup. I had the seedlings in DWC but when I saw that the seedling that was in coco doubled the size of the other seedlings I had to make the switch.

sooo, I got's me a minifridge exactly like disfunktional's.. I've had some equipment laying around so I was going to make one of these up with a 400w MH/HPS Digi in a custom bake-a-round cool-tube with air being exchanged by a 465cfm aquafarm blower.. overkill?

no closets in the new house, so the equipment has been staring at me begging to be used once again..
