I like your set up nice and clean!
I'm new here and I'm gathering ideas for for a stealth cabinet that I'm designing / building, So I have no grow experience.

Here is my question on your system. What will keep the roots from growing into the return lines and plugging them? or is that not a problem with this type of system?

I was thinking of doing a Recirculating Dwc design (same thing different name. I think) using 3 5 gallon buckets 2 for plants and one for a reservoir. is this practical or over kill?

sweeet! I have the same dolphin pump she's powerfull enough alone, but X's 2 wheeew! maybe you could explain the diff between dwc and this type of operation? what was the total$?:lurk:

the main difference with a dwc setup is you have to check ph and nutes in each tub.
with this setup, you just add to the front tub and it recirculates.

i will have to add up all the parts and see what the total was. i think it is under $200 though.

so it's really just a recirculating dwc on roids right?

nice diy!

the roots may get tangled in those air hose lines... may be good to secure those to the walls+pan of the tote. can use duct tape, aquarium glue, shorten length & make taut, etc.
harder to do maintenance on system when roots wrapped in/on/around vinly tubes.

enjoy your garden!

Looking good kelly.

I built my own RDWC also but on a larger scale, look like yours but with a few twists.

Adding a chiller to this, the system seems quite logical and entirely worthwhile. Absent a chiller, I have to question whether the benefits of the RDWC system are worth it on this small a scale.

I further appreciate that a chiller is expensive and may be added later to this existing DIY system.

Excellent DIY Bro! I luv seeing folks build there own stuff! You just trigger all kinds of things for me!! Digging that set up for sure!!
Imo the only thing Id add to it is screen at all the return lines so roots dont follow into those pipes. Excellent Job!!

Nice lil set up! Just a thought for you about your tubs. Maybe you could double them up for more support, and more light proof...or you could foil tape the whole thing. That is what I do to all of my containers, actually I put black duct tape first and then foil tape. It will help with water weight, and keep light out. Good luck.
