Growing in the basement, concerns about air quality...

Hey my new house does not have alot of sq ft to grow in. Basically we can fit about 400 watts in each bedroom via Ikea Closets, however the flowering room we want to fit into the basement.

Now the basement itself is really smal and not even really a basement, more of a crawl space or hobby room...it is about 5-6 wide and 20 feet long. is really messy right now, theres lots of dust and all sorts of stuff around. its also where the water heater is. the basement is seperated into two rooms by a door, outside of this door there is an entry point to underneath the house which is full of dirt, debris, and god knows what else.

basically
_____________________________________________________________________________
[main access door]--small area 6ft long--[2nd door] grow area 15ft long [window]

its very narrow, so i might have to do a vertical grow..

This is literally the only place to set something up, and im wondering how should i go about this? i can get fresh air through a small window, and i was thinking about outgoing exhaust going into the normal part of the basement.

Also, what kind of things should i be worried about concerning all the dust and stale air down there? Do i need an ionizer or one of those funky air purifier things? aside from sweeping and bleaching the fuck out everything, what else should i do? will "basement" air mess up my crops?

Thanks for your input.

Your idea on the air intake and exhaust are on point imo.

As far as the space, just clean the hell out of it and make sure you filter the intake well. I find it also helps to keep a negative pressure on the room when growing in a dirty situation like this.

Also, if you are able to cover the walls with panda, this will help keep the grime out.

oh yea definately using the panda. im gonna layer even the floors.

what is negative pressure? the actual grow room has a small window and a door that leads to another small room that leads to the outside.

i was thinking of creating the false window box and installing it over the window, and sucking in air from the outside. i cant be sucking in air through the garage it will be nasty. im probably gonna have to change my filters very often.

Dirty dusty places can be made a lot more grow friendly by spraying down the area with a solution of PVA water soluble glue, it just seals all the dirt into a surface layer and you can get on with the growing. Even if you Panda up, it could be a god idea to spray down the area behind the plastic just to keep it all as clean as possible.

Negative pressure would draw air from dirty spaces into the flowering area. Positive pressure would prevent that dusty air from infiltrating the FA, but then odor control might become a problem as air from the FA is driven out thru leaks.

I had the same starting point, as chaos stated pva the walls is a defo also clean the floor and screed with a latex addative check what your rh is now then you will know what you will have to do.

to increase your air quality I replaced a brick with a air brick then fixed my fan to a spigot to draw air in, then at the rear of the house fitted a outlet fan I am suffering from a pest infestation so be sure to place a bug screen on your intake.

another tip if you have low head room you may want to think about cool tubes i have a seperate fan which draws air from out the grow room throu the cool tubes then blown up stairs to my living room to recycle the excess heat works a treat.
