If i were to ground up a few grams of quality sinsemilla and add it to pure olive oil then let it sit in the fridge for a few hours will i get any effect from it? or will the THC need to be heated?

2 grams ground sinsemilla
1/4 cup of olive oil
minced garlic
dried thyme

I cook bud in olive oil.

What I understand is we must heat the cannabis to activate the THC..

Will it dissolve into olive oil cold??

Good question.. Anyone?

I have not tried it cold, but I think it would take more time and bud. It will work if you cook it, different high than butter or milk too.

Ive done it - works great, really great, one of the strongest buzzes I've ever had - I let it soak in olive oil at room temperature for 2-3 days. Definitely not necessary to heat it.

Great thread!

How much bud do you guys put and for which quantity of oil?
Do you think it is better than cannabutter?

I do this quite a bit. I put in some sugar leaf (trim), olive oil, and throw it in the crock pot on low. Let it sit on low for an hour or so, then strain/press and use the oil in whatever makes you happy :woohoo:

Awsome! Im curious how it might turn out using bubble hash. I've never tried anything like that without using heat. The extraction might be possible without using heat, but the heat is whats nessisary to activate the cannabinoids to get the desired high.

heat isnt necessary, a longer soak time will make up for not heating.

I've made salad oil lot's of times. The trick to getting the best extraction is to grind dried and cured bud, finely with a coffee grinder and activate the cannabinoids by heating.

I boil water in a small pot and sit a pyrex measuring cup inside with my oil/bud mixture. It takes about 1 hour to get the best extractions. I use about 3 grams/cup of oil.

A 1/2 tsp is all ya need, nudge - nudge, wink - wink, say no more....

My roommate and I cooked tacos last night. Cooked the meat and shells in oil. Woke up this morning and didn't know where I was.

Agreed and also this is an area where it can be a very clean and long lasting experience.

Caution is recommended and always test effect before dosing. While we know that we will not die from Cannabis I know that I can have discomfort with some strains. So Now I use some common sense and test. I had an experience of lead ass the last test I did.. That was a bit too strong.

I understand that as well.. However would it be possible to transfer to the oil with a cold soak then heat portions at the time of use to activate?
Would that keep better? Would it work better?

I don't know if there is decay after activation when we store activated that non activated wouldn't be subject to??

Interesting thread for sure..

Might as well toss the questions out..

I too like the "pan" in boiling water method. I found a pan made to set in a pan. I believe it is a confectionery pan for like melting chocolate.

What do people use? IS a double boiler better? I see some use crock pots..

What do you all use?

I have not heard that you can do this with no heat. I know alchohol activates the THC, but how does olive oil with no heat do it?

Would actually like to try this, but I am weary to waste the bud if it would not be effective. I guess you could heat it later if you weren't happy with it.

There is some active THC in buds but there is also a carboxylated form of THC that can be made more active through heat (which decarboxylates the compound into THC). I have heard of people using cold-infused olive oil even with just industrial hemp

I did an experiment once: 3 batches, same amounts in each, same cooking tek (crock pot & water), same times, etc etc. Clarified butter, coconut oil, & olive oil. Took the same dose of each, empty-stomach wake & bake, with a day off between each.

The coconut oil & butter were close enough as makes no difference; the olive oil was noticeably weaker. Not a lot, but enough to notice the difference.

I've read that saturated fats (coconut oil, butter) are better than unsaturated fats (olive oil), because saturated fat is a much shorter, simpler molecule & is digested much more readily - less work for the digestive system, & one of the reasons saturated fat can be a problem health-wise. My little test seemed to bear this out.

Still, olive oil certainly does work.

IIRC Hemp has raised levels of CBN and CBD and very low THC, to reduce its appeal to smokers ? But I am sure I have read that some Med users like higher CBD and CBN levels as the effects can help them. Maybe a blend of oils could help ? Some high THC Weed Olive Oil extract mixed with high CBD/CBN Hemp extracted Olive Oil could be an idea ?
