Legal/Medical Grow security protocols?

So the winds are changing...

Due to Amendment 20 here in Colorado marijuana growers no longer need to fear loss of freedom so long as they are:

1- not exceeding their statutory limits i.e. 3v+3f =6/ 2oz usable meds per patient.
2- have a genuine relationship with their patients.

Given this massive reduction in the risk of growing what risk mitigation protocols should be adopted if -

1- wife and children live on site.
2- you live in a safe neighborhood.
3- you have mock web cams and real motion detector alarms.
4- 3400k grow.
5- do not associate or do business with "criminal types." (sorry no offense intended to criminal types).

Really I don't like to live a secret life. I like what I do and want to be both smart and open.

Should I act paranoid?

If so why?

Thinking critically... how much of a risk is this when police are no longer the enemy? Doesn't the risk equation change in light of Amendment 20?

I will tell you one thing the ONLY thing i worry about is LEO. If i did not have to worry about them i would hang a open sign on my front door and give it away to anyone who wanted it.

especially since i live in a nice safe neighborhood. The only reason "criminals" are associated with MJ is because it WAS/IS illegal. People grow corn for money and noone runs around shooing them and taking their corn lol

In colorado if you follow Amendment 20 guidelines LEO has been leaving grows alone. They are even liable for destroying plants and have had to compensate for this in the past, including the return of meds and grow equipment. For real..

That makes me wonder how much of a target this is? If I am robbed I will contact the police. Simple as that. Why would I not? Everyone that I have let in either has their own grow, or is a trusted friend.

I am starting to believe that Amendment 20 has changed the old equation of total fear.

Yes one should exercise caution, but living in total fear and paranoia has far too high cost for me. That is the reason that I never ever considered growing illegally.

Yet, I still question my assumptions, and that is why I posted here.

It seems to me that criminal punishment is by far the worst fear when it comes to growing cannabis.

Other than that I would simply suggest to place a value on your gardens and protect them accordingly. Like having a good car alarm if you have a fancy car stereo for example.

Growing any amount that's worth stealing if you have kids is irresponsible. Sorry. The legal status is still in heavy limbo, greying all-over. We are absolutely NOT to the comfort level where you should be doing grows that size with kids at home. Your wife can make that choice, but minors cannot. They don't even understand the scope of something such as that.

I don't have any moral problem with young kids and marijuana but there's a myriad of complexities involved when you crack open that box.

I hate to say this, but have you not heard of rippers/tweakers pulling a job on a grow house and killing everyone inside so there's no witnesses? However unlikely, that shit has happened quite a bit. I would not be able to sleep at night, you can't even have a shotgun for home protection because of federal mandatory minimums. Ruin your life.

Couple questions. I don't see how a high wattage equals danger. I have 2k for only 6 plants. Also what is the deal with having a gun and a legal garden?

A higher wattage is a bigger grow, regardless of plant count you're still pulling down weight. The more wattage you use the more indicators you have to control. Of course risks don't apply as much to people that have perfected their security protocol. But let's be honest here, no one's perfect. The risk is in having a bigger setup and then making a human mistake, some sort of tiny slip up. And that slip-up can just be a tiny little slip-up that grows like a seed in the soil into a giant shit plant. And then you have a bunch of shit to deal with.

And the guns issue is complicated. Technically under state laws you should be allowed to have your guns if you aren't doing anything else illegal and aren't over your limits. But, you have this big dark over hang where... well, if you get a fed bust (however unlikely) you're looking at a MMS (Mandatory Minimum Sentence) in federal prison. And it doesn't matter if you have one plant and a hunting rifle in your gun safe. The judges hands are tied, therefore the MMS. You can't get around it, so therefore it's not worth risking a good chunk of your life to have a gun. Many people disagree. But I personally think that's one of the big risks anyone responsible (especially with family!) should cut out of their big shit pool of risks.

Bottom line: Family changes everything, especially the little ones.

Note: The fact that you've showed anyone puts you in a boat so leaky that you should not be trying to sail across the atlantic.

Yeah... when I was in high school I could have jacked all my friends dads if I wanted to. Kids just can't keep their mouth shut. I knew about a lot of "my dads grow". I even know some kids that robbed their own parents grows with their friends for some money to lift their trucks and shit. Not saying anything about your kids, I was just thinking back to that age.

Another side note, people who tell their wives/girlfriends are ballsy. I've been with the same woman for 5-6 years now and she has NO CLUE that I've ever cracked a seed in my life. That would scare the hell out of me. A lot of women like to talk. (No offense to female growers).

Taking precautions are 1 thing, living in fear is another and will probably shorten your life.
