All Apologies, Why So serious? You gotta have a sense of humor.
Maybe if you met me down the pub everything would be ok.

Does the lamp holder you have have some positive or negative marking that told you what your's is Scrubbie?

No, but it looks like you got it anyway. Green wire goes to earth, loop (L) stays empty, the blue and brown can be either way (edit: for bayonet fittings only), but keep the same wires to each succesive bulb to avoid confusion.

New Question

New Question

Connecting 2 core wiring to 3 core...

2 core fan wiring has 2 pins, marked "N" and "L", so Neutral and Loop?

How might I add fans to my 3 core cable I'm using to power my 4x cfls?

One is nuteral and one live.. which colours have you used with the lights?

Cool. So "L" to my "Positive", Blue. And "N" to "Earth"?

Nar one to nuteral and one to live.. if its only a two pin plug on the fan you dont need an earth..

but it depends on the fan too.. some will spin the same way regardless of which one you use.

and others will change direction depending on which way you wire it up.. tho i think this is with Dc..

Try to focus Technique ;)

I'm chopping the heads off my fans and adding them to the cable I'm running to power my cfl's, which are 3 core.

fans = 2 core
cfls = 3 core

Anyways, was just looking for confirmation, i know what I'm doing (sort of hehe).

Here's a link to my thread with pics - http://icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=2874967#post2874967

So if you go there and look you'll see I just want to reduce the number of power plugs, have it all hard wired directly.

So I want to lop the head off my 2 core fan and attach it to the 3 core cable I'm already using.

Get what I mean now? It was hard to word ;p

Haha yeah all clear :p and love the esky.. will have to do this soon i think. never had success with aero cloner or a bubble one dew to temps.. and i sure would like a fuck load of clones.. my system i always lose one or two early on in the picture.. and its such a waste of space..

and no earth for the fan.. just active and neutral. and it wont matter which way you put it around. ac will still spin the fan the correct way.

i was just thinking back to the remote control car days putting the polarity the opposite way on them engines and going backwards.

Are the batten holders BC (bayonet cap) or ES? (edison screw) With BC it doesn't matter which way round you have the active/live (brown or red) and neutral (blue or black), however with ES it does matter.

An edison screw batten holder wants the active (brown or red) connected to the terminal that goes to the metal tab at the very bottom of the socket, and the neutral (blue or black) wants to be connected to the terminal that goes to the metal thread where the bulb screws in. This is so the exposed metal thread in the socket isn't live (240V) which can be dangerous. See pic for details.

:yeahthatsGreen is earth, brown is negative and blue is positive same as red is positive, black negative and green earth

You've got that backwards! Here is the correct colour guide:

fixedwiring.jpg

Fixed wiring (the wiring in a house, contains solid strands of copper)
Active/live -> Red
Neutral -> Black
Earth -> Green

flexcable.jpg

Flex cable (extension leads, contains very fine strands of copper so it can 'flex' without breaking)
Active/live -> Brown
Neutral -> Blue
Earth -> Green

don't do that Benj, send it over here bro ;)

But seriously, this stuff is pretty basic and the open discussion opportunity a forum provides allows a true filtering and sharing of knowledge.

Thanks to all involved in helping me resolve this, which of course I can't ask a Professional for help in my world, so it's a wonderful thing you guys have done. thanks :)

Hey Tech....I'm actually in the middle of an overhaul of the VEG cab.

One of the problems I've known about for some time is the lack of free airflow. It is so multi-level now that using marine ply as shelving has practical purposes, like low cost, strength and water resistance, but it has created major problems.

I went to the local waste transfer station, where we have a huge pile of dead fridges, so I pilfered a dozen or so of those caged shelves, we see in older style fridges, quite strong and white and plastic covered.

Will be replacing all existig shelving with these. Adding lighting and fans, and hard wiring them into probably 4 cables that I'll add a power plug to, so I only have 4 plugs to find power for, instead of the dozen or more outlets already in the cab.

Will be keeping my grow thread updated ;)
