Does the lamp holder you have have some positive or negative marking that told you what your's is Scrubbie?
One is nuteral and one live.. which colours have you used with the lights?
Green is earth, brown is negative and blue is positive same as red is positive, black negative and green earth
Are the batten holders BC (bayonet cap) or ES? (edison screw) With BC it doesn't matter which way round you have the active/live (brown or red) and neutral (blue or black), however with ES it does matter.
An edison screw batten holder wants the active (brown or red) connected to the terminal that goes to the metal tab at the very bottom of the socket, and the neutral (blue or black) wants to be connected to the terminal that goes to the metal thread where the bulb screws in. This is so the exposed metal thread in the socket isn't live (240V) which can be dangerous. See pic for details.
You've got that backwards! Here is the correct colour guide:
Fixed wiring (the wiring in a house, contains solid strands of copper)
Active/live -> Red
Neutral -> Black
Earth -> Green
Flex cable (extension leads, contains very fine strands of copper so it can 'flex' without breaking)
Active/live -> Brown
Neutral -> Blue
Earth -> Green
I went to the local waste transfer station, where we have a huge pile of dead fridges, so I pilfered a dozen or so of those caged shelves, we see in older style fridges, quite strong and white and plastic covered.
Nothing like a good old tip scab!
