Here's the very first Spy vs. Spy from Mad Magazine's Jan. 1961 Issue #60. The strip's creator, Cuban born Antonio Prohaus escaped Castro's censorship to come to the U.S.

He presented his idea to Mad as "a captivating cartoon of a friendly rivalry", and may have meant the "black" spy was a Soviet Cuban agent, rather than Soviet Russian.

The strip had a 26 year run in Mad. Prohias died in 1998. 2 books of his Spy vs Spy work were released in 2000- "Danger! Intreague! Stupidity!" and "Mission of Madness", both of them sell for $11.99.

Hey ArticBlast,

Never got to play the game, saw some of the graphics on the net. They're in color, and it kinda didn't have the same feel as the black and white strips. Thanks for posting the pic!

Thanks for this thread ! It reminded me that I have the Mad Magazine CD compilation set. Anyone know if I can get PC discs, to run on a Mac ? I loved Mad, Cracked, and Crazy magazines while growing up, and loved the old Fold-Ins inside the back cover, as well as the tiny drawings in the margins !
