I was under the impression that 2-3 weeks after flowering has been initiated the root systems ceases to grow any further. I had two plants that really needed to be transplanted but I did not because they were flowering. It would have greatly increased the yield. At four weeks it's too late from my understanding.
But if I had known what you believe to be true, that would have been convenient.
I agree Ludicris. I typically re-pot during the second week of flowering after sex has been determined. Males usually show their sex first----the pollen sacks are easy to spot. It's really an exciting time because you get to see if you were able to "beat the 50/50 odds" of sex selection. If you can get better then 50/50 with every run then you are doing something right to influence sex! I start in beer cups (dilute the rich soil with perlite so as not to burn/overfeed babies) I then repot to gallon size. 2 weeks into flowering I go to 5 gallon size.
After repotting to the larger container for flowering I give the young female adults a heavy feeding of FoxFarms Big Bloom----one cup per gallon! I also add 4 drops of superthrive at that time. A quarter teaspoon of MgSo4 doesnt hurt either in promoting bud sites.
Since I'm repotting early with no major buds (2 weeks into flowering) I often tip the pot upside down to get it out of it's container. Like you said, you have to be careful and delicate. Don't forget to cut off your LST strings while youre at it too!
