hay guys,,,,:),,,see what you think of this..

Plants Are not Green!, They Just Reflect A WaveLength That Producees The Sensation Of Green!!

we have ALL long heard about the benifits of adding a MH bulb to a late flower room,,,,,,,the reason for this benifit is that the plants want a change in the clour spectrum towards the end of flower,,,an IF we give them what they want we THEN see a Positive Reaction!!!,,,, increesed yeald/taste,,,whatever:),,,,,,,,,,,cause and effect!!,,,,anyone for themaldynamics?:),,,,,,,,the colour that plants demand towards the end of flower happens to be on the oposite-side of the colour spectrum!!!,,,,but its not blue like the MH sujests ,,,the colour they are actualy asking for is Purple,,,,,they only respond to the blue MetalHalide because mixes with the HPS to create a purple wavelength,,,,,

lately i have been workin on refining my light and colour scheeme`s,,, my main goal with this has been to design an aproximate scedual that fits colour with correct grothperiod ,,,,im calling it "Additive Mixing In Relation to Groth Period,",,,,,,currently i am trying to ballance the whole thing,,,,[just so it dont drive me crazy]

this idea has brought me to be very aware of KelvinRatings, CRI,, Wavelengths and last but not least UV !!,,,classicly its been difficult to obtain a lightsource better than HPS,,,but things have changed!!!,,,lately i switched from using HPS to HighPressureMetalHalide "HPMH" [sunpluse bulb],,ive seen slight improvements in yeald but nothing major,,,,yesterday i decided to go 1 step more:),,,,,i am now convinced that this introduction of suplermental light to my grospace will have a dramatic effect!!,,an that is exactly what i am looking for:)

RedPURpleWhiteActinic.jpg

PURpleRedGoldWhiteBluePURpl.gif

yesterday i had the opertunity to see some new lightsources in action,,,,,, a good friend of mine runs a local hydroshop an he has a brill lil garden going in there with all types of wonderfull yet legal plants:),,,,

while i was looking at 1 of the new PURple lightsources, i noticed somthing that i thought was very interesting:),,,,1 group of plants in a specific spot of the growroom seemed almost BLACK in apperence,,,,,,,a pakistani friend i was with called them "handeri rat omi",,[darker than the darkest night],,,,it looked very odd to me!!

PS1.jpg

i asked my HydroShop Friend "why do them 1`s over there look BLACK bro??"",,,,,,,he smiled at me and said ,,"same reason why anything looks black kido",,,""it aint reflecting any light'",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i smiled back:),,,

MY QUESTION NOW IS This:::,,,,,,if the plant is black then the surface must be absorbing all available "visiable" light,,,,,

if so, then what colour do we want our plants to reflect,,,,NONE???,,,do we want to give it everything and reflect nothing????

the line on the chart is the colour purple,,,,notice how its a blend of Red and Blue,,,,,,,, notice where purple is on the spectrum in relation to blue and red,
1.PURple.jpg

Spanish Eco Slim Line T5 HO Lighting

PURple is excellent at the end of the flower cycle - UV light is needed to fully fill the glandular trichomes of basil. Plants of Ocimum basilicum L. were grown in the absence of UV light, both peltate and capitate glandular trichomes were incompletely developed in both mature and developing leaves, the oil sacs being wrinkled and only partially filled, there was a large decrease in the number of broken oil sacs among the peltate glands as the mature glands broke open, releasing volatiles. the number of glands and the qualitative & quantitative composition of the volatiles were badly affected by the lack of UV light.

T5 HO fluorescent lamps produce their maximum luminous flux at 35°C, compared with 25°C for old T8 fluorescent lamps with a tube diameter of 26 mm. Since the temperatures in the luminaire are higher than the ambient temperature of, say, 20 to 25°C, the efficiency is at least 5% higher than for old T8 fluorescent lamps. The small tube diameter of 16 mm also leads to an increase in the efficiency of the luminaire. These lamps offer even more luminous flux if they are operated within the luminaire at their optimum ambient temperature. Excellent for energy saving replacement of old HID lamps where high light output is needed.

Colours are the nlite colours , these are detailed more on charts for Spectral Power Distribution (SPD).

Aquatic Plants: Actinic Blue for Marine Plants and PURple for Tropical & Freshwater plants.

Land Plants: Warning: All fluorescent lights emit UV light, PURple emits proportionally the most. When using any fluorescent lighting with early seedlings or early cuttings they would be best be protected from copious amounts of UV. This is easily remedied with a single sheet of glass or perspex or plastic, between the fluorescent light source and the plant tops, a Propagator top is ideal. (see PS1)

In many circumstances a combination of only White and Red are traditionally used, White for all pre-flower stages and red for all post flower stages. A favourite for all pre-flower stages is 50% PURple and 50% Gold, a favourite for all post flower stages is 30% PURple and 70% Red.

PURple is known to be favoured for growing equatorial plants, such as Orchids and is proven to promote the production of flavoids which can enhance the colour, odor and and flavour of plants.

Why do plants need UV light?
UV increases the level of essential oils in mints & the production of resin by trichomes of relatives, UV is used for maximum yield and quality of these oils. UV induces color development in flowers, essential for beautiful red veins in green Kale or Chard.

Tasty Sunscreen? With added UV light, an increased level of essential oils yields a more powerful scent and flavour. The essential oils also aid in the absorption of UV light , thus a sunscreen for plants. Plants in the wild produce their own kind of “sunscreen,” called flavonoids. Flavonoids screen out some of the more dangerous UVB-type radiation.

your purple bulb is just a red and blue mix, not really purple in the spectral sense.....that'd be low wavelength UV light, IMO.

notice on your chart, that tiny bump in the sub 400nm range....thats purple. the rest is red or blue. ;)

Funny you talk about this!

I allready tried it with some laotian i had,the goal was giving them better spectrum than hps alone...sadly i had to cut my plants way before they were ready for personnal reasons...so i don't know if it was really beneficial ;but as you said,i noticed that's the plants(or part of the plants) under the fluorescent were blacker than the rest, and develop more compact buds, and also faster...

Fluoro i used were Arcadia tropical lightning(said to have high UV output);

Green is the tropical sunlight spectrum, while white is the fluoro's.

Here are them in action(you can notice the purple light):

hay amoril,,,,i know what your sayin,:),,mixing red and blue is the best any1 will get unless you know of a better way?????,,,,,,,,,imo mixing red and blue to make Purple is why everyone mixes MH with HPS in late flower,,,,

but, is it possible to get a good wavelength by Mixin HPS and MH??,,,,using the nLite gives the right wavelength,,,no?,,,

ive been toying with the idea of paying 70quid a pop for the purple sunpulse,,,it states the purple one has added UV,,,,ive allready got 2 600w 3kel sunpulse bulbs,,,they were the shop samples from my mate at the hydroshop when when he first got them in,,,

what do you guys think,,,,,,,,,??,,,,,,,yeaterday i bought 6 24w purple nLights,,, i was gona buy more just to play with the rainbow

what do you guys think of the purple sunpulse,,,,,,,,,??........worth 70quid?????

Have been useing two 200 watt remote ballast purple nurturelites for vegging for two years now with good results compared to an equivalent wattage of T5,s used previously.
Bulbs fade within three months to the point when it is hard to tell them from a warm white spectrum to the eye , use four bulbs per year costing
£90 ish but the plants are lush and compact.

Have seen huge differences in the colour and reflectivity of different crosses and even phenos within a cross under these lights , move them into sunlight and they look identical , seems to depend on how waxy and smooth the top surface of the leaf is and brought out by the lack of green light in the purps.
The manufacturer states the purps have the highest amount of UV of the range.

hay foomar:)

i also read that the clour purple is highest in UV too,,,,every company who makes these PURple bulbs shouts about extra UV,,,,,but i wonder what exactly are we getting , an witch company hase the best kit,,,,sunpulse or nLight??,,,,,would it be best to mix and match???

your experence is very interesting,,,,,,,,so, just to clarify, you find the "Reflective State" to be directly related to how waxy the surface is!,,,,thats very cool....i wonder what the waxy surface is actualy reflecting,,,,,any ideas?

them new bulbs of yours sound a lil expencive,,,,i hate the idea of light quality deminishing so quickly,,,do all colour suplerment bulbs lose quality so quickly?????? ....

what do you guys think of the Sunpulse HPMH compared to the T5/nLight, and other colour supliment bulbs??????

Hey english,

Them 10K purples are brilliant. I have a few myself. My SSSDH scrog monster was finished for 10 days or so under one and produced the best SSSDH I have smoked yet. Taste, look, potency everything came together 110% with the 10 K

Hi rick

Got nowt particularly dark in veg currently and its almost impossible to take a pic that shows it as much as the eye.

Last one of note was a run of Venomhead where some were black compared to others that looked pale green , it was seemingly random across phenos and sex but will pay more attention in future and autopsy some leaves under the microscope.

Cant source the bulbs below £22 - 25 and replace them alternately one every three months on a 20/4 cycle so each bulb does under 4000 hours before i pass them on to a cheapskate mate who uses it for another three months and so on.

Both the CFL Nurturelites and their T5 tubes both lose most of the original colour , as seen by the eye at least , after 2000 hours as the phosphers burn out.
Have no way to tell how much useable output is reduced as light meters are hopeless with the purps , but they perform well enougth in the second three months for standard vegging.

Find they really do keep the internode a little tighter and with restricted headroom they are worth the premium to me.

About to buy an LED array and will trial that in veg against a fresh purp as i think they are the best CFL/T5 solution at this time.

Cheap trick.

Cheap trick.

Aloha Englishrick.

You asked
.

" shouts about extra UV,,,,,but i wonder what exactly are we getting"

Easy enough to check for UVb.
Just obtain some eyeglasses with "transitions" coated lenses.

Hold them under your light for a couple minutes and observe.

If they darken, you have enough UV.

Aloha,
Weezard

Hi Weezard

Just tried my reactolite rapides which darken very fast in sunlight and a fresh purp has no effect after ten minutes almost touching it , possibly not a whole lot of UV here if its any kind of accurate test.
