Drain bucket?

I have my girls in 16quart hydrofarm plastic pots they fit perfect into 5 gallon buckets with around 2" of space before bottom.

I was thinking of putting a piece of 1/2 pvc out the bottom for the drain. Would this work good? or would the roots start growing into the bottom bucket?

nice plant !!! she gonna be a monster..

i doubt roots will get that far,,but whe she gets real big you are gonna wanna lift her out of that bucket

use to grow in 5gals buckect that where inside another bucket with a brick in the bottom and a pvc drain setup worked well. i grew 4 bushes in 5gals coco under a 1k hps and would get 6+oz per plant. i would run alot water through those buckets and having my pvc drain system work great

not a bad idea.......lines of them, connected and angled a slight incline should do the trick. im trying to quickly think of pros and cons. it seems, there might need to be some type of "carb" on the bucket, to allow to air to breathe into it, when the plant is watered. air can be sucked through the carb into the plant, considering its sealed off, and would be with the pvc.

i think its a straight idea tho.

well

I threw some pvc fits i had into em . I drilled my hole 1 1/4 inches to center above the bottom. I used male adaptors so I can attach my hose fitting(pic later) whenever I need to flush. I am leaving the cap off so air can get in. about 3 cups of water can sit in the bottom before it leaks out.

nice work donk....i just thought of a solution to that 3 cups of water sitting idle in the bottom. on the other side of the bucket across from the drain, you could screw a little prop into the bottom of the bucket, be it? a 1 inch piece of wood. this would have them always sit at a perfect sliiiiiiight angle to have them drain out. what do u think?

also, where would you have the drain tubing go? do you have the luxury of having a shower available or toilet? i guess u could drain into a toilet?

letting stagnant water sit like that might not be the best idea, unless you plan on watering a few times a day, so the water does not sit there for long. Anoyone have any thoughts on this, I figured you would be opening door for pests and pathogens and all kinds of crop destroying scenerios.

no issues w/ standing water in a basin.
can be wet 24/7 for months.
1-3 tsp h202 per gal will oxidize unwanted organisms.

odor & bubbles =

can also simply mix h202 into spray bottle, @ 10:1-5:1 ratio.
spray into stagnant water basin. no air stones/diffusers needed.

if exposed to lots of air flow of room, will evaporate faster... this is why wider run-off basins are good. they permit room circulation to keep water fresh.

enjoy your garden!
