600 in 3x3' vs 4x4'

With a 4x4 area, you still get the same buds in the 3x3 area with the addition of 7 sq ft of extra buds.
If you have the space and only the one light, use the extra space for "free" bud.

I run 600's in 4x4's

works well enough so far

I crammed 30 girls in this current run and will be posting my results early january

I think people try for overkill light wise compared to footprint.

Maybe I will test some 3x3's against 4x4's and see what works better. Odds are that has been done plenty, now to find some threads with results.

Im running 1-600 in a 4x4 and 1-600 in a 3x3 area right now. Been doing this for a few grows now. One thing i figured out is to many plants crammed in is a no no. Unless your gonna do sog or scrog. In my 3x3 ive tried to do 8 plants at one time and it got way to cramped and didnt do as well as my current grow of 4 plants. In my 4x4 I have 6 plants that are doing very well. All plants are in 3 gallon smart pots. My next grow im gonna try and get a screen in there to maxamize my out put. id like to see what other people using 600s are doing as far as technique. GL LL

Exactly right. Our girl has the right idea :)

Past a certain point, you'll reach a point of diminishing returns due to the inverse square law that governs all radial point source lights, but if you have the space, best to grow *something* in it.

Now, if you're going strictly for g/watt-hr or g/sq ft and the like (remember, it's just a number, folks...), it's always easier to get higher relative values using smaller wattage lights. 150W or 250W HPS will beat 1000W HPS every time, on those terms. Especially in a ScrOG.

Still looking for a light that offers a perfect balance between intensity, consistency, and coverage. Basically, a PL T5 HO with better penetration. Perhaps LED strip lights that mirror fluorescents (in profile) will be optimal, in a few years. We shall see.

Or at least, for those who grow in low-lying beds and in rows as I do, like pH showed us with his maxi-scrog multi shelf. Been a few years since I actually talked with him, myself - wonder what he's doing now? Wow, time flies...

Cheers,

at what height do u have the 600 above the canopy to cover a 3x3 area and a 4x4 area? I got a 600 in a 3 x 3.5 about 12" above mine now (due to them stretching to the light) but will prob move it up a lil higher to cover the plants on the outside better. Just wondering what the optimal height is for best coverage. thanks

:2cents: I do 600's over 4x4's (16 3 gals sog) too and I find it much easier to hit 1lb+ a light than with a 3x3. I like to rotate the 8 outside plants for the 8 middle ones every watering (2-3 times a week) to give all plants equal time in the sweet spot of light intensity which is the 8 sqft in the center of the footprint. Keep that light around 16 inches from the tips after the stretch is done and it should cover the space perfectly. Veg 3 weeks and prune correctly with a strain you have dialed in...20oz+ per 600 is highly possible with this setup. For those who don't like to run the sog numbers and don't mind a 6 week veg, bush grows will also work well a under a 4x4 with 4 10 gallons fimmed on the 4th node and lst'ed @ 4sqft per bush. :joint:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone
