CFL MIXED SPECTRUM

Indoor Noob
3 sf Cab soil
3 sourd's
1 nyd
all clones
Lst
vegging w/ 125 cfl grow light 6500k
( doing fantastic! )
foxfarm ocean forest
will be using foxfarm liquids
Have had vegging for 7 days
Sour D's were about 5 days rooted in soil when I got them,
NYD was put in soil when I got it.

I also have six 23w cfl 2700k's ( for flower )

Q:

Will this ratio give me any issues in flower? ( 125w 6500k/138w 2700k )

(only 52% 2700k)

........

or should I get a 125w 2700k and replace 4 23w's with 6500k

( the ratio would then be 92w 6500k/171w 2700k

(65% 2700k) I've heard this is ideal

...........

I also might me able to replace two of the 23w 2700k with 42w 2700k,

that would take me to ( 125w 6500k/ 176w 2700k )

This would get me up to 58% 2700k

..............
Also, some people say mixing the spec is not needed and that you should go 100% 2700k

Please give me your opinion and the reasoning behind it. I've heard that 6500k will reduce stretching ( this would be good w/ sourd and less than 18" of height even though I am LSTing) I've also heard too much will cut your density down. I am trying to not spend more money at this point but I will if I need to!

Also if anyone has any other input on these strains or my setup feel free, I should have pics up today.

Thanks Guys!

Mixed spectrum during the first two weeks of flower sounds like a descent idea to help control stretch. After that I would go 100% 2700K. You want to smoke fat sticky buds not a bunch of leaf. Of course thats just my :2cents:. I only use 2700K once I flip to 12/12 personally. Peace

Here's a couple pics, ( The NYD is back/right ) just gave a second round of LST to all except the smallest SD ( back /left ) , (Her leaves yellowed during rooting , and has been a little behind the other too, but new growth looking great. The NYD was two hug nodes so I'm trying to loop that down first thing.

Due to limited space I am really debating when to flower, I have them propped up about 10" in these pics, but from what I know the SD is a streeeeeeetcher ( 90% Sativa ). Thanks for the input.

You only have 10 inches of height below that? I would be switching soon! would also get them closer to the light as long as heat isnt an issue. I keep my girls within 2" of the lights at all times. LST is definately your friend, I continues LST until about the 2nd or 3rd week of flowering then I let em go. Good luck dude. Peace

Thanks for the tips, been moving them up a little bit at a time to make sure of no burn, I was thinking 2-3 more days till I switch . I'm hoping I can get away using my current mix of bulbs for a couple weeks of flower so I can come up with the 65$ for the 125w warm and wait a week for the local hydro store to order it.

So I ordered the 125w 2700k cfl, hopefully they will have it by Friday, ( the 1000bulb.com ones were a good deal but don't really have an address that gets ups or anything-) I am still considering mixing the spectrum with a couple of 23w daylights. On this site there are some supporters but a lot of people who have tested this out with no difference than a full 2700k. The only thing I know is my nodes have been tight with this 125 w 6500k for veg, the mothers of these sours had major stretching issues under HPS. Still up for debate would love anyones input. Here's my thread for this grow:

I cycled a couple of 6500 and 5000k bulbs through my first grow's mostly 2700k lighting and was pretty happy with the frost.

I recently added a 10,000k to the 4000k's in my pll cab hoping for a similar effect.

Personally I think new CFLers worry too much about it. The exact balance of your kelvins isn't a deal breaker to you having an awesome grow. Anytime there is a subject like that where there are two sides and somewhat inconclusive, I think it's best to just try it yourself and draw your own conclusion from your experience, rather than flipping a coin trying to decide which opinion is right. My current grow is kicking ass without a 2700 in sight, as did the highpod. Both PLLs but only because I can't remember anyone who tried it with CFLs. I'm sure someone would have...anyone know? Anyway, hope it helps some :joint:

Thanks for the input scrubninja. ( BTW You have an awesome thread) The only thing I know for sure is when I went to 12/12 and added the 6 23w 2700ks - all the babies have been streeeeeting like a mofo. I will change my 125w to 2700k in week 3 or 4. I still might swap some 23w 's for blue but I'm planning on going with what I have for now.
