So a guy im close with got busted very recently, he is going to be in there for atleast a year. He had a few #'s and guns which is so fucking stupid. Should i go see him or would it be too sketchy, the saying goes if you go into the tigers cage you're going to get bit. He has been a friend for a few years and i feel the need to pay the man a visit to talk to him. What do you think i should do?

Walk away for 2 years. Friend or not he is not family and therefore should understand without you even needing to say anything.

before reading his post ^

I thought that, since prison is such a lonely place, it's incredibly good to have visits...

write him a letter ?

He probably has a limited list of 5 or so names he had to turn in that are allowed to visit him. Not just anyone can show up at jails I have been in. You think you made the top 5?

Best thing you can do is put some money in his commissary and send him a letter IMO.

And not in your name cuz they read incoming and outgoing....I mean it needs to be a fuckin friend that would know it was you regardless and this doesn't sound like that type of person. If you didn't come equipped with a $ sign would he have a damn thing to do with you? Needs to be lifelong friend man or just leave it be.

Sorry but I would say walk away for now, you can always get his info(name- b/day) and decide to send him a letter or something later, unless you have nothing to hide or fear then check to see if you can do visits, your call man!!

You can as suggested make sure to put some $$$ in his commisary
account which can be done online these days (he can get you the
info) and you'd probably be allowed to send him socks, t-shirts and
undies (in white only) which he'll need and appreciate, don't laugh
it's true & what he doesn't use himself can be traded w/as if it were
cash money. You can't send any magazines to him but you're allowed
to send a magazine subscription, if he's a sports fan get him 'The
Sporting News' magazine as it's weekly & again he can trade or gift
them to others for favors. Send him a weekly periodical.

If you take care of your bro just a bit while he's on the inside you'll
have a fiercely loyal friend when he gets out, someone who'll watch
your back no like nobody else will and by the time he gets outta the
joint he'll for damn sure know how to watch someones back as that's
the life they live in there. Don't you dare make contact once or twice
and then leave him forgotten either, that's just not cool.......

this is where your friend suffers the inequities of justice but realizes
that he has a brother in you. I hope you can do the right thing by him.

EDIT:
All the paranoid talk about forgetting him for now to keep yourself out
from under the eye of LEO is BULLSHIT!!! When somebody winds up in
jail they rely ONLY on family/friends that are straight enough to care &
that can help financially, that automatically puts you on the good citizen
list if there was one, leo knows that other culprits etc would never send
money or goods to friends in jail, trust me that doesn't happen. Help him.

I agree with stoner4life. It really meant alot to me when my buddies helped with some cash and letters......Letters are one of the most amazing things I got in jail, it makes ya still feel connected in a way with family and friends.

Friends can for sure be equal to or better than family, and they can also screw you just like family!!!
You are the only one who can make this decision.
The reason I waited was because my good friend was tossed around to 3 different prisons the 1st 3 years of his 8 year term ,before settling in 1 place for more than 1 year, and the great prison system here in Cali is just so accurate and never loses anything......(obvious sarcasm)....and both my friend and I agreed to wait till he got settled in, if that was/is even possible in prison, it isnt!!

So why is it then that some can see there friends and some cant?
I have friends in biker clubs, and none of us could see certain individuals due to our pasts with the said prisoner, especially if your a felon!!
And I know that they do keep on eye on people that visit or communicate frequently wit h prisoners, but ours was due to the whole "gang association" ideaology(sorry spelling?), because we were all considered gang members and associates of a gang member, we had no contact available to our friends, but again that was our situation, 1 we put ourselves in, and we just had to deal with it.
Again all this was well over 15 years ago, and some things have changed, and I was always cleared myself to do visits, as I am not a felon, and I was the contact and fund provider for many of our associates in the system.Just 2 close friends I couldnt contact due to crimes commited together several times(hell we were all close friends) in the past prevent me visits, but I did send them funds every other month, well my wife did, so i guess that doesnt count.
Anyway sorry as I wasnt trying to say to walk away, this friend will for sure need your support.I was only speaking from experience to 1st wait then contact, but only if you fell that person is a tue friend. As stated above by some, your friend will forever be greatful, if he is a true friend though, that is what you have to decide.
