Any light mover fanatics out there? QUESTION for you...

I'm about to make a purchase for the 3.5 light rail light mover - except I need to decide on the 10 or 6 RPM motor.

I'll be having two, 400w HID's, connected up to the light rail (buying a second addon). They will obviously be closer to the plants then usual (thats my whole purpose in buying a light rail - more lumens & no deathly heat). What would be the best motor for a 800w grow... I don't really understand the RPM

Just answer me these two questions and i can probably figure out which motor i need on my own - how do you determine the most effective rpm/speed for a grow?
Is the Light Rail Robo-Stick Lamp Stabilizer that useful? or could i make this on my own ..

thanks! any input MUCH appreciated

Just went through this as well. I was told the 10 motor was the better choice for this application. Although both would probably work. If you want the 9' track this is the motor that comes with. The 6' track comes with the 6rpm motor I think.

I did find though that I needed the robo sticks to balance it out properly. In fact I think they should be included with the kit. Spend the money they are worth it unless you can fabricate an alternative.

revilutions per minute. it doesnt matter in my opinion. u are only using a total of 800wts. how many feet do you plan on it traveling your lights? how many plants and how big?

the 10 moves faster than the 6, it can also move more weight i believe.

Personally id go with the 10, i always seem to over-do things tho hahah

THe 3.5 can do just about anyhing you need it to do just that the 10 has to wheels which help it stay balanced ez'er the extra sections are just 20-25 bucks.

i found the slower one is probably most ideal. and will be less easily set off balance since my reflectors are lightweight.
I'm getting the add a lamp extension as well.

-Here's what i read in jorge cervantes mj horticulter- and hope to achieve such results-
-Bulbs can be placed closer to the canopy of garden.
-Increases bright light to more plants.
-Delivers light from different angles hence even lighting.
-Increases intense light coverage by 25% or more
-Light is closer to plants.
-Economical use of light (duh)

BUT since the slower rpm mover will move slower. i take it that i can't keep it as low to the plants. So i'm getting the faster one.

Solace,
Whether you get the fast motor or the slower one...you still have to worry about the delay time built in at the ends of the cycle before turn-around. If you're going real slow, you'll have to adjust for minimum delay at the ends to avoid light burn.

I think the factory website says 6-7 minutes as the optimal cycle time. So look at the length of you track...your turn-around time and do the math.

solace . You are only using 400wt bulbs you can still move them pretty close with no problems. also you are only using 400wt bulbs so no need for extention. unless you find a 50 rpm motor. lol. think about it by the time your 400's reach a ten foot pole and have to come back the plants at the other end will be starving for light. (when your leaves turn yellow i wouldnt look at ph or nitrogen. itmost likely will be that ur not using enough lumens on ur lovely ladys.)
