I've been looking to buy a carbon filter for my next grow room with will be 4x2x8 and will have ~8 plants in 3 gallon pots. Do they all work the same? Is there one that you would recommend?

When you by a filter, check the pounds of carbon included. That is the main difference. Go with a can filter. They work great.

Foothill filters on Ebay has nice filters that are cheap. I tried the DIY route, and it was a waste of time. Ever since I have used the Foothill you can't smell shit.

Ok, I have a nice set up but it does not involve any tubing or anything, I live in an apartment so can not cut holes in my walls or anything. What should I get to control odor? It seems that this carbon filter is just placed in the tubing but this doesn't work for me....obv. noob on first grow...

Give this link a look. Hydrosun uses one and says it beats scrubbers by miles. The tests that have been done show very clearly how well the technology works.

I've got a huge 8" CD ozonator, and though it has its purposes, it is not a replacement for a carbon filter. It's not recommended to have ozone come in contact with vegetation, it can burn the leaves if too strong. Ozone also has a distinct odor that cops know to look for too. I just use mine in my airlock, but the room itself is two big CAN150s and 12" Vortexes, no smell in either room. The ozone alone doesn't cover all the smell and doesn't work well if the humidity is over about 45%.

Foothills filter will work for a smaller grow, but once things started flowering that filter started sucking. Look at the amount of carbon they contain....
It would be good for a smoking or drying room I bet. Maybe not even a drying room.

OP, Can filters are classic. I wanted a Profilter (atmosphere), however the only shop near us that carried them tried charging 300 just for the filter (pro 50). We ended up going to a different shop and getting a Can 66 (they didnt have a 50)

yeah i don't know anything about ozone generators...i was really wanting to sick with a filter partially due to the fact it doesn't cost anything extra, electricity wise, to run a filter.

kingofny- i took your advice and i found that a 6in carbonaire has 40 pounds of carbon while a can66 has 42 pounds. there is ~ a $70 difference between the two and i highly doubt that 2lbs is going to make that big of a difference to warrant the premium price.

assuming i run one chamber 8 plants ~3ft tall would one of these filters last a year worth of grows?

I am impressed by my Phresh filter. It's really lightweight. I used a Can before that and it seemed to work well.

the place i got my filter from did not go by size, they had their filters rated by the size of your ducting, regardless of room size. i somehow got a 140lbs filter, good for an 18x18x8 room, and my space is only 4x6. woops, get the right size filter, preferably at a local shop.

I love the LeFiltre scrubbers. Friend is using two big ones and they work great plus they only weigh like half of the standard scrubbers and it takes ALL odour.

Not sure about the different brands in the US and Europe, but in the UK Phat filters are noted for being better than the others. In Spain I got a Prima [as in Klima] branded filter for my mates 150L fan and it worked pretty well for about 6 months growing before starting to loose it a bit.
