Keep seeds till id. of sex, in 16 oz Dixie cups ?

Back to seeds after a very long time. How long before I can change seedlings
to 12/12 ? Can I keep the seedlings in their 16oz ( 1/2 Qt) plastic cups till then? I just dont have space to transplant them all and am hoping to get rid of the males before putting fems in 3 gal tubs. They're under 400W , in Coco/Perlite, fed with Flora grow/micro/bloom, and are about 4.5" average height after 4 weeks, with about 6 leaves. N. Lights and Lemon Kush.
If they cant last till 12/12 can I make an interim transplant to say 1 Qt ?

Thanks lots !

You can get away with this in coco, assuming the strain is one that shows early preflowers. I've kept plants up to 10 to 12 inches in 16oz cups, even flowered once in a 32 oz. cup just for the hell of it. You might have to water twice a day to keep the medium wet, and it's certainly not "ideal", but it can be done.

Yea I just did this with a bagseed in a plastic cup.. it showed balls at I dunno how many weeks, but it wasn't too long, maybe 6-8wks. I'm sure they'll show within another month, just keep checking the top couple of nodes for balls when you water them.

No point in taking cuttings and flowering them to sex, by the time you find out that way the ones in veg will have showed balls anyways.

Thanks ! I guess the key thing I want to know is
How long before I can change seedlings to 12/12 ?
Jorge Cervantes says '12 inches tall' , or elsewhere
'about 3 months' Do you agree ?

There is the 12-12 from clone or seedling school of thought. I have tried it. Basically, the earlier you put them in flower, the lower your yield will be. Other than that, it works fine.

It varies by strain, but I like to get mine close to 2 feet tall if possible. Large containers and long vegging time is the secret to large yields indoors, soil.

i started 2 of my 11 plants out on 12/12
1 has budded up pretty nice and has some frost(strawberry haze), the other(super silver haze) is like 4 feet tall and started to bud much later. they are both 7 weeks old, and are about 10 week flowerers, but i'll push them to 14 most likely

Many like to wait until they see the nodes start to stagger, instead of two across from one another. This is usually a sign that the plant has reached sexual puberty, if you will, and ready to be flowered. This will happen at different rates depending on genes and conditions.

Any haze is going to stay into the veg state way past 12/12, and about the only way I see of containing them, besides the normal training procedures, is to keep them in small containers.

I agree with southpaw on the coco...due to sometimes if you wait until after they are in flower and show sex, some will tend not to fill out the medium with roots if it's a potting mix. Coco the roots seem to seek out everything no matter what.

yup but once they get to certain size twice daily is fine

Thanks to all! I'm uping the nutes today- have had them on a very weak
solution because I burnt up/destroyed my last crop from over feeding.
I dont think I'll have the patience to wait longer than 10" tall.

What does " until you see the nodes start to stagger " mean ?

get 2 cups. Cup with pant in it put a few, 4, holes in the bottom. Then put that cup in another cup, same size. Then you can just put water in the bottom cup and plop the plant back in.

As soon as you see a few preflowers, top her and clone root it. By the time that branch roots, youll know what you have. it's not wastefull to clone males. Just toss the seed plant and bonsai the fuck out of it's cut till you need pollen.

dog, when a seedling is young, the branches come out in pairs, one across from the other. As they mature, the newest nodes (area where the branch comes off the stalk) will emerge singly one on one side, and then another further down, and so on. They no longer grow across from one another once they are sexually mature. A sexually mature plant will give you the best results, IMO.
