I want to talk to EBB GROW system people

Ok so my first run with the 12 buckets ebb grow system was a success but i noticed when i was chopping that the roots were starting to show signs of root rot and they had barely made there way through the holes in the top mesh bucket. For grow number 2 i decided to raise the buckets 2 inches with a block of wood under each bucket. i am 5 weeks from harvest and the roots have grow much more since last run, they are shooting out of the holes. The rot problem is still kinda there but not as much. i switched my waterings from 4 times a day to 3 times a day. I am about to change my watering time to only twice a day and i will only feed with the lights on. previously i was feeding at night as well as in the day

I quess im just curious what other guys are doing.. i figure two times a day is plenty seeing as the roots are submerged in small pool of water pretty much all day. i think if i only water twice the roots will soak up the stagnet water in between watering thereby elimating root rot.. what do you think?

i have the same system same prob. i had a long veg time and had lots of roots lifting the buckets a definate i started with a 2 x 8 under the buckets and still had it in the buckets also. i lost 3 plants because of root rot. i was using zone and didnt notice any rot then at rez change forgot to add it and fig it want a big deal since a buddy of mine had the same system and was working great without it. then plants started going down like 5 foot plants. arrghhh.... so i added the zone back and the rest are still alive. i was considering adding air pumps to the system jsut not sure that it would work. eviltwin on here use one and he suggest changing line form 1/2 to 3/4. hope this helps im fightting the same battle. what if we lift the buckets a lil higher? also of my buddy uses is a general nute, root accelerator, and bloombastic with no problems lifted on a 2 x 8

I use the technaflora line with the same 2x8 with no problems just a small signs of rot this time around. how any times a day do you feed? what times? night only when light is on? what about your buddy?

also do you run hydroton?

im straight hydotron i lost 3 plants to it cause i didnt act fast enough i guess for now with sighns of rot i would say zone would help lazyman was telling me about physan20 if your having any slime or algue prob

just talked to him he said he feeds every 4 hrs around the clock. he jsut sarted a new batch i saw and smoked his last batch it was awsome i dont understand he is doing 6 damm feeding with no problems

12 yrs hydroton flood drain

12 yrs hydroton flood drain

when i first started i had them two wet .corrected that then i found ph in rez not same as pot at 2 weeks .then i found can have more floods safley last 4 wks of flowering but definatly got to be dryer first 4 wks in flower. cf in pot not same as rez .cf is important tool for hardness you got to read your plants can use less floods for hardness of plant also as cf will biuld in pot faster .
Best to be to dry with your first few crops until you get the hang of it .
PH buffering in soft water is very important .PH the hydroton first time you use can explain in detail if you want. always re use hydroton you only lose 5% balls a crop .
Every thing i need to know whole set up lights nutes air in and out of room ,temp day night cf in pot in tank .ph in pot in tank .what size shape pot how deep tray .flood level in pot .flood time up down .hieght of light at different times ect
use 15mm/20mm clay not the smaller stuff. loads more i could say

maybe the increased number of feedings is keeping the water from being depleted of oxygen.

biggest prob shop bought ebb flow kit

biggest prob shop bought ebb flow kit

the biggest probs with ebb flow kit from shops rez is underneath not down stairs like mine no hi speed syphon effect for fast drain and water cascade into rez for oxygenation of water . and not hi speed fill from big pump. water temp in grow room hard to control when room hot .ideal 21c.

I bet your rez gets hot and as far as oxygen goes google bubble disc you want the 5 inchers and a big ass pump. These bubble disc kick arse when it comes to making air and you gotta have cool water guys you just gotta. I used to use Hydroguard helped I guess but since I got a chiller (must have for buckets imo) I simply run it at 68 and my buckets are on the floor.

I flood every 6 hours in early go to 5 late veg then every 4 once I flip to 12/12. Oh and I have a Tri-Meter and yes another MUST HAVE for buckets imo. In late flower my girls will drink 5 gallons a day and I will flood once at night usually in the middle of the dark cycle.

ALL FLOODS are for 15 minutes by the way and I have NEVER had root rot and been using them forever.

One more tasty tip: After you harvest pull the inner bucket out and let it sit a day or 2 to dry out. You will find doing this will allow you to grab the root (that you cut 2 days earlier) and damn near pull all of the roots out at once cutting change day in half.

I have no such problems, but my tidal systems have air in every bucket and res. Your systems are different, but I have an easy solution, that will sound crazy. Add fresh tap water when you mix your nutes, the chlorine in the water will prevent rrot. Ain't that a hoot? If you want, only use half fresh tap, to see how they react. I rinse all my roots at transplant with fresh tap to keep rrot from starting, or get rid of it if it sneaks in.

I water once an hour before the lights go out and when the lights come on water again. Then I space 2 watering between the watering when the lights come on and when they go out an hour before lights go off. Not watering during lights out should help. I also use pond and fountain protector(enzymes) which helps keeps the water from from stagnating I use a bubbler in the rez and my pots got 2'' lifts under them. I use RO and rain water, sometimes a little tap. I haven't changed out my rez the whole time thru flowering which is almost finnished, just topping off and adding fert when need. PH hardly ever moves even thou I like letting it drift between 5.2-6.0 and PHing back down but it takes forever to drift up it barely moves once its around 5.4.

This is my first time around and l love this system. got pearly white root patty's in the space at the bottom . I had a over feeding problem at the beginning which I think prolonged flowering but now the buds are huge and ripening up real nice. I over vegged trying to get them big enough for clones so they are a bit crowded for their size (4 ' tall) and only a ft apart. still got many giant colas and good size bud(SharksBreath, LA Woman, and some of the freeies I got.

I suggest bubble the rez to keep water fresh. I think watering durring dark period was your main prob ((no light=no photosynthesis)=not much if any water usage) but you got lifts under the buckets now.
Disclaimer: This is all a matter of opinion based on my experience. Have fun and think of these problems as a chance learn! Like I had to. Have fun and grow on ! and on......

thanks for all the help guys
mrwags so you water at night while in flower and yea i have a meter keep ph 5.8 to 6.2 and ppms toped off to desired levels at all times. i also only flood for 15 min. so what all besides nutes do you run in your rez?

Two things: First, a root supplement, like greenthumb said, will work wonders. I use Root Excel by House and Garden. Others like Pyth Off will work well too.
Second: Everyone has the same worry about the bottom bucket not draining completely. I take a few pieces of plywood cut to 12"x12", 2 or 3 depending on the thickness, Liquid Nails them together and BAM! No mo problems bro! :joint: GOOD LUCK
