thats fine, i just like to see some research ahead of time before using new plants other than the common ones we use. ive had people blame it on the method because they used anything they wanted at any rate they wanted with no research ahead of time, burned there plants and called me a liar.

good looking out
i wouldt blame you or call you a liar for my own mistakes. your a big help and give great advice..
i like that you advised i test on other plants first

i didnt say you were, just that others have. what do you think happens when you tell most people they are buying fertilizers and pesticides that are a waste of money and that they can grow everything they need for free.

i advised because i have goofed up before many times. and most other plants are not illegal so you can have quite a few of them. for example no ones going to give you slack for having 200 tomato plants, but 200 pot plants oh boy you better be ready lol.

speaking of growing fertilizers for free, heres a sad looking nettle i decided to plant instead of chopping up. poor dude got man handled and shoved in a bag but he's still standing :D

and this is my comfrey, got it as a root maybe 2 weeks ago

i had it planted in a container, then i read a post (i think by you) that comfrey hates containers, so i planted her in the ground next to my pigeon pea. everything grows spectacular next to my pigeon pea (gandule)
i harvested one leaf and ate it, its got some light burn but im sure it will grow well.
i also planted some buckwheat, alfalfa, rye, chamomile and some more borage

just to let you know the nettles and comfrey stay where you put them, specially the comfrey. it will be there for years and years and years. even if you dont want it there anymore. so choose well.

the rest sound great, your going to be fertilizer independent real soon.

borage is an awesome companion for tomatoes too.

thanks Jay,
i actually had nettles growing in my backyard before but i removed them.like most people i used too butcher any weeds that grew in my garden, shame on me :noway:
the comfrey I got is the bocking 14, so im sure it wont spread like mad. i plan on propagating more and more, spreading to every corner of my garden (were it will stay). this stuff grows very well, at least in my experience..
thanks for the advice on the borage, i collected some beautiful heirloom tomatoes seeds for next year, i cant wait..the toms are going to rock

MM
thanks bud
ill look for ur thread
hehe gospel, dont worry friend, i like to believe im a man of science

lol yea, its ok i used to be a weed hater too. mainly because parents always make it seem like a bad chore, a punishment of sorts. when really its just about weed management, choosing and using the weeds to do our bidding.

propagating comfrey is super easy, get a piece of root about the size of your pinky in thickness, cut pieces 1 inch long, pot up in compost and keep moist. youll soon have more comfrey than you could ever need. but on the good side youll have a lot of bulk "greens" for composting.

a little update
here's the nettle
pineapple sage
purple native sage
basils tea
i wanted to test them on some plants, so i used these colored toothpicks
i foliar sprayed and soil drenched w/ jay's ratio's

i will see what happends, each color reps the 4 dif tea's i used. i wanted to make sure the tea's dont harm plants so this is the first test on garden soil, then ill test on some container buckwheats and then MJ will get a taste.
thanks for all the help!!
question..
how do you store worm compost leachate? and how much would one dilute with water? thanks

they look pretty good. strain well and jar that stuff up!
basil (milk jug), pineapple sage (soda bottles),purple native sage(grape juice jug) and nettles (milk jugs)

strained and bottled, i always collect empty jugs.. know i got some home made bottled nettle tea and some
this is an anaerobic process, the only thing you could add is the lacto bacillus culture.
how much do i add, and does it make a difference if its LAB serum or pure LAB culture?
ill post some pics of my alfalfa tea and chamomile tea, currently being made! buckwheat will be next, along with borage, yarrow and comfrey when they grow some more..
thanks much for the help

yea you have enough ferts there to grow a LOT of weed. lol. over 6 months worth of ferts in those bottles for sure.i hope you strained real well.

i add either, but the lab culture works better as it is diluted and strengthened with the molasses. add as much as you want, the water could be 100% lab culture if you wanted, you could add a few drops. id say 1/3 of the liquid works well.

but just to say it, you dont need the LAB at all for this to work well. LAB helps with smells some.

ahh nettles look great, when they get to about 8 inches tall top them. take off the top growth to healthy nodes. you will now get 2 shoots to harvest next time, then 8 because each 2 turned into 4. and so on. before you know it youll have enough nettles dried and saved to last you a year. then after that there will be so much you will have bulk compost material. and nettle compost kicks ass.

i strained good,
i find that i grow less weed then most. cannabis is actually one of the plants i grow the least. most of these plant tea's will be for my vegetables and ornamental plants in my garden. i so wish i had an outdoor crop of ganja

thanks jay, i have a lot of lab serum and pure culture so ill be using a lot of this stuff, while its fresh

thanks Jay, i believe its all ready 8inches tall! i want to try and top according to a lunar or biodynamic calendar. witch im still trying to figure out, lots of reading/head aches and smoking (any help/links would be appreciated!)
i have also found many nettle sprouts growing in my garden, witch will help with my compost come spring and summer

oh thats good, these extracts grow amazing food. people always tell me they havent tasted food this good in years. the other day a visitor ate a katsuma mandarin we have going, said "I eat and buy organic food only, but that was the best damn thing i have eaten in a LONG time" but what was priceless was the look on his face. pure joy :)

i have harvested enough nettles year around to say that it doesn't matter when you do it. as long as you don't do it too much. nettle sprouts! i hope you didnt overseed. it can be done trust me haha. it is a good thing but if you dont control it to a certain extent, nettles WILL take over haha. one good thing is like weed there are male and female flowers, learn to identify and cull males will help big time.

well my lettuce are responding nicely to the plant teas/extracts!
i dont have much going on in the garden now but come early spring, my soil will be well composted and ill have some plant extracts to help with...its going to be a good year, garden and grows just get better with the bioOrganic approach

also im not planning on harvesting any more nettle, i got plenty for a while. i just wanted to TOP with the lunar calendar to see if nettle responds better. kind of a experiment
thanks for the info on the nettles, ill look 2be sure they dont take over.
ill post some pics of my alfalfa tea and chamomile tea, currently being made!
as promised~ alfalfa tea (3lbs method)

chamomile fermenting
@ first this smelt like, sweet honey...now it starting to get stinky!!
hey jay you think i should add the LB?
also i didnt use all the alfalfa tea, it should be cool to stop aerating and let ferment right? just double checking..
some OrGaNiC YESCA......

lambs bread
and some other plant~KC brain crosses, gifted by a friend

when i make alfalfa tea i just let it sit like the rest, no aeration needed. and yes alfalfa does smell like shit lol.

what strain is that first one, i like the deep jagged serrations in the leaves.

if i do add LAB, i add it in the very beginning.

Its winter where I am located, and cannot forage for things to add to my plant teas. but I do have a lot of sprouting seeds, alfalfa in particular, plus just about anything else that you can think of... Could I spout some alfalfa seeds (in a jar, as usual?!) and then grind it up in a blender when the alfalfa has started to green-up? Would like provide any benefit for a plant extract? Namaste

i doubt you don't have anything to forage in winter, i know people who live very high north and it is VERY cold, yet they find everything and more that they need.

as for the alfalfa sprouts, it should work i dont see how it woudlnt. as for ratios and application rates. that i dont know. do a search for the nutrient analysis for alfalfa sprouts. that is a good start imo.

Good point, I bet there is still something, but just not the usual suspects such as nettle, as it seems to die off in the cold. we just experienced a extreme cold snap, so lots of stuff has recently died back. I will take you advice and think more laterally. the one benefit I can see about the sprouts is they are vigorous, and that seems beneficial in terms of the quality of the extract. Thanks for encouraging me to explore. Namaste

yea no problem, its just i have had people tell me that they can find anything to use before, when really it was just a matter of getting out and taking a walk. youll be surprised what sticks around in the cold months. my yarrow just got covered with 6 inches of snow, it melted and they look happy as can be.

sprouts are great because of what you mention, full of energy!

btw you dont have to use nettle and the rest of the common ones. they are just commonly used, well at least more than most. all plants contain nutrients and plant chemicals. its really just a matter of finding whats in what and how to process it.
