Bubblegum2's Closet [(6) g13xpurp in soil]

Decided to try out some of my g13 x purp seeds

Started with 7 seeds, germinated in water for 48 hrs and then placed in damp paper towel.
Too my surprise 3 seeds had popped their tap roots in the first 24 hrs and then the 4th within 48 hrs. I was happy with this but lucked out and 2 more seeds popped a day later.

This was supposed to be a little project when i was piecing together a grow tent and wiring
for the Hydro that Im getting under way. I was originally planning on messing around with 2 or 4 plants depending on how many seeds popped and how many are going to sex female.

I hope you guys can help me out a long the way and shoot some more ideas for the Hydro thats slowly coming together.

Heres some pictures to try and give you an idea of the shape of the closet these are in right now. Its hard until I give you guys exact measurements but the shape resembles that of the right wing on an air plane.

The closet stretches about another 3 feet and and narrows to about a 3-5inch depth.

The soil had dried up a bit, so today i watered the babies and added a little soil on top because they were getting taller and could use some extra support. Put them outside my window on the roof when i let some water dry and drain.

11/2/09 pt. 2

Im back from the store, i picked up a Hydrofarm 2 ft. High Performance T5 System.

These are from earlier in the day. This was at 1:22pm when i unscrewed two of the bulbs it was so hot and aired out the plants with the door open for a bit when i mended to them.

You can see close up that the 4 original of the 6 are looking a little dry on the top soil, this still when i had only two of the CFL's screwed in.

I came home to a pretty hot house today it is normally pretty chill in the morning where i live and becomes very hot around 11am. Today was probably in the high 80s all day and stuck around 86'-87' degrees until about 4pm.

So it was time to cool it down a bit and i installed the 2 ft. T5 fixture. The problem that i am having with temperature is that the back wall, the one the Temperature Gauge is mounted on, is the side of my house which gets beat down on pretty bad by the sun all day as well as the adjacent wall if you were to go towards the right of the closet.

This photo was taken at 4:10pm.

As you can see better now under the T5 the 4 are a bit dry and the 2 more recent are still moist.

So i watered them and here they are back in the closet at 4:28pm.

Checking in a few hours later at 6:04pm they all look about the same moisture level.

The Temperature gauge has an outside temperature prob that is set in the middle of the red cups and a inside temperature gauge on the until itself. The inside temperature has constantly been higher because it is on the heated wall from the sun all day so i should place it somewhere new and the outside probe at middle of the red cups is still a little high. Again, at 6:04pm it was 86.7'F on the wall and 81.8'F in the plants with 20%RH.

**I realized halfway through and then decided to continue that my camera time hasnt been updated to daylight savings time so all time stated above is one hour late**

Right now at ACTUAL 5:58pm it is 62'F outside, and in the closet it is 82.5'F on the wall and 80.7'F in the plants.

I added back in some of my 23w CFL's on the sides of the plants and wired up a pc fan with 3 speed controller to a 12v DC adapter. At 1:06pm:

Just now at 7:30pm i felt that the temperatures arnt too bad and i rigged up a some zipties to lower my chain a little bit more so my T5 is actually positioned somewhat close to the top of the plants. It currently sits at about 2 1/2 inches above. I just watered them again because 5 of the 6 seemed dry. Ive been giving them 1oz or 1/8 cup evenly watered around the cup.

As you saw in my last post i added some produce ties from the grocery store for support. How do you guys feel about adding another t-5 ? Im going to go grab some more light sockets for the time being, all the home depots and other related stores around me stopped caring the "Y" splitter bulb plugs which is making a little more difficult. Its been cold the last two days so i gotta heat these guys up a bit.

Still been kinda cold, hopefully it will pull out some of the purp in the the plant. I need to light my pilot light for the heater in my room and turn get it started, think i should keep the thermostat around 70'F all day?

@severian
I plan on mounting a fan on the door to pull some air in, as well as cutting a 4" or 6" hole in the bottom of the closet to exhaust out through a carbon filter/scrubber that ends up under the house.

Im trying to keep the overall room temperature nice as well so the closet doesnt have to battle to much but the sun does beat down hard on the wall that the temp gauge is mounted on and the adjacent wall in the room.

@sin competitor
right on bro, let me know when you get it going.

So here is a question for you guys, ive been watering my plants with Safeway drinking water i know ive heard good this about the Reverse Osmosis ones from their as well any feelings?
2lnib9l.jpg

I had been giving them 1/8th cup or 1 oz and they would need to be watered about every day. So i gradually increased to 2 ozs and now tried 3oz about 3/8ths of a cup. I figure that the red cups are 12oz cups and are roughly 10/11ozs filled with soil, most growers have 4 gal pots of soil water 1 gal of h20. That is a 4:1 ratio and for my 12 oz cup i should be water about 4 ozs or 4/8ths of a cup.

Looking healthy. One thing I do with the same cups is drill 3 holes in the bottom. Then I soak them till the water runs out. You will only need to water every couple days and wont need to worry about the soil getting water logged.

I would ditch the tie wraps. Let the fan blow them around - the main stems will strengthen more if they aren't dependent on the wraps for support. They always start off spindly but strengthen quickly.

The safeway drinking water says it is from a municipal source. I would switch to distilled or RO, whichever is cheaper.

Looks like they are in good hands.

@severian

Thanks, yah the bottom of the cups have holes to drain out of on the bottom and a half of a cup to catch the water. The tie wraps where to get some guys straight that were stretching toward the CFLs on the side wall and right now arnt even exerting any pressure their loose.

need to upload my pictures for the day.

Okay guys its been a a little bit, i got some new goodies and i guess it would be time to change the title of the thread to "Bubblegum2's Tent" (except i havnt figured out how to yet).

I picked up a Growlab, it measures 2ftx2ftx5ft3in which hopefully will be a adequate size for my 4 plant hydro the next time around after im done messing with these girls in dirt.
