man you gotta keep a mother hella! Take cuttings from everything and label them. Keep the females going. A single 18 gal rubbermaid with the hamilton beach tru aire filter attached is great for drying and for mini mothers. I keep 4 bulbs going in there.

hi hella, sorry about the males - fwiw i would say none of the pics you posted are totally conclusive so i should give it a little while. even if you have no place to keep males you could cut a branch off the best one and keep it in water near a window (in a different room) and it'll still produce some pollen that you could paint on a bud and make some seeds. if you are worried about someone seeing it you can cut the ends off the leaves to disguise it.

it would be worth thinking about a little clone/mum area. mine is tiny and has less than 50 watts of light but i can keep 8 or so mums in there.

female seeds sound like a good idea for you. dont listen to the bad rep they get. my best plant (blueberry) came from a female seed.

good luck

Thanks for the condolences, everyone. Here's the final verdict...

All five plants were males. They have all been put to rest.

My plan for my next run is to run some fem seeds to get some moms (I'll have a separate veg/mom/clone area by then) and then once I have my first harvest completed, I'll pop these BOG seeds I just ordered and should have things well under control by then. It's just a few weeks of delay, but I'm going to press on. Hella doesn't go down like this.

I'll keep you all up to date

Thats the spirit man! Ive been through it myself. Its always a gamble with bagseeds, hell it can be a gamble with dank if you dont get feminized. 12/12 from seed is a great method when growing with bagseed. That way you waste as little time as possible vegging possible males. Good luck on your next grow man, Ill be watching! Peace

Hella do you think you could grow in a single rubbermaid with training? I've started off with just 1 tub, which I could totally upgrade with a second, but I'd prefer to keep it at 1 if possible.

Hey tooth there is a rubbermaid club come join.

I keep my mothers in a single tub but I would not flower.

virago420- Thanks for you words. These plants went through some stress in the beginning, but a male is a male, no matter how you slice it. These new genetics will come rollin through and I'll be up and running again.

toothpaste- I'm getting a small veg tent when my seeds come in and will be using this as a flowering space. I don't want to have to worry about any training other than some topping, so the extra height is good. Plus, I like big trees :D Read further in the post and I describe my plans for the future grow.

So here's the scoop...There are some modifications I'm planning for the next week.

First, I'm buying a small veg tent. I'll be able to keep a couple mothers in there as well. "Big Green" (the Rubbermaid) will just be used for flowering now.

Second, I'm buying a bike hoist for the top so I don't have to lift it off anymore.

Third, I got some casters for the bottom so I can just roll it in and out of the closet.

Fourth, The box isn't totally light proof right now. Some spots glow, so I'm going to ditch the mylar and just put aluminum tape up instead. It seals well, and the mylar wasn't laying too flat anyway, and I know I can get the tape flatter than the mylar is right now. It starts to "bow" in after a while.

Good things to come,

- Hella

hey hella - glad you are looking forward :)

5 of 5 males is very bad luck (1 in 32 chance), but at least you grew them well and they looked the picture of health and you can take some experience from it.

cheers

'Hella doesn't go down like this.' - Amen brother!

If the paint will take (undercoat?) I'd go with matt white paint almost as relective as Mylar, won't get dirty and fade, easy to patch up scuffs etc. Just a thought. :)

Thanks VG. It's terrible luck indeed, but it was bag seed, and that means there were variables outside my control. My luck will change. Watch me knock out 100% ladies this next go! Haha, I won't jinx myself.

Thanks to you too, Strangely! I already tried the whole painting thing, and although I did it wrong (no primer, DOH!) I don't think I want to paint em. But you're right dude, it would totally work, and is in fact nearly as reflective as mylar... kind of crazy when you think about it.

Payment is going into the Bay in a few days :D BOG stock, here I come. It's really a dream come true to grow his gear... I've been drooling over his stock for years. And I've heard you can never go wrong with BOG genetics... Now if we could just get the REZ releases already!

hey hella, didn't have a chance t oread through everything, but sorry about the males. thanks for your comment on my thread - meant a lot.

when you get those kinds of numbers I would suspect something is stressing the plants out still... i guess it is entirely possible you just happened to get all male seeds, but there are items you can focus on to get more females.

- lower temps
- higher humidity (just during germ/veg)
- light leaks: make sure all is sealed up so no stress'd out hermies

shit i'm probably throwing out unsolicited advice but if you haven't thought of checking these i would do so. in my experience the temps are number one... i keep my gals far under 80deg F during germ. down around 72 if possible. usually have a 70-80% female ratio. :pimp3: i don't know some will argue it is all genetics, but i'm a results-oriented type of grower. i just pay attention to what is going on instead of what makes sense. you never know if something will be perfectly logical or perfectly counter-intuitive.

best of luck, hope to see you around my thread and good luck. if you still grow cfl's check out my Free Your Florescent Bud Pics thread - some other good floro grows... i use HPS now but rocked T5's in the beginning. had some great results too! floro's are underrated.

the thread is around here somewhere. lol peace

Thanks khaleel. I don't think it played too big of a roll, but I had trouble keeping the humidity above 25%... the drier air in the winter just takes the moisture right out. I tried putting a huge wad of wet paper towels in an open zip-loc in the box but it didn't help at all. I'm thinking about getting one of those mini humidifiers that they use in humidors.

Thanks MEDS Yeah, it sucks, but I know I can grow green, strong, Hella healthy plants :D Now I just the ladies.

Nice grow Hella, sorry to hear about them all being males. At least you didn't buy those seeds. And you gained a good sum of firsthand knowledge from your first grow.

I'll be looking out for your second grow.

Sausage party...any grower's super-frownie faced nightmare. Great looking setup though, you'll be pullin the bitches out left and right soon, I'm sure. Can't wait to watch the next round Cap'n.

Hella, stress did not cause your males, and don't let anyone convince you otherwise. The sex of a plant is determined before the seed goes in the ground.

Really, why would anyone believe stress would create males? Hermies I can see, but as far as I know cannabis doesn't switch sex because of low humidity - much less to male, of which only one is required for many females. 5 out of 5 is also too perfect for a user input influenced outcome.

Just get them mothers going. These days, to get them started, I am not even growing them out. Straight to bonsai, and then the cuttings get sexed. Females are kept, males chucked. I now have a blue burmese and a young mazar-i-shariff mother (well, that one i did grow out). My cab is not full yet, but once it is I will always have plants in 12/12.

If you ever feel like scroging, I think it's less work than sog and similar yields.

MAJOR UPDATE

I have a confession to make...

I said that I had gotten rid of all 5 plants... well, that my friends, was a lie. They all had 100% male organs... except one. The smallest OG retard... the little runt. She was showing what appeared to be very obvious male pre flowers, so I just planned on it being male, as the others were. But I decided to keep it going until it started forming ball clusters so I could be 100% sure of sex.

The little plant just stalled out completely in the last 2 weeks. No vertical growth, no signs of flowers, just dead in the water. Then about 3 days ago, I looked at the one little pre flower its had for a month now with a magnifier and lo and behold, I saw two little pistils! And I'm happy to report tonight, it's officially a girl!!!!!! :woohoo:

I had nearly given up... to the point I told you all I practically had given up, because I never dreamed there would be hope for this one. But now I have a show again! I'll get pictures up tomorrow. I've been very busy lately. My apologies for the excited ramblings!

Best wishes,

- Hella
