Doobie Busts His Bubble…Hash!

A couple months ago I tried my first kief with a tumbler I built from a Showtime rotisserie: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=132880 ..that was fun.
Now I have my first bubble attempt to entertain you with. I placed a PM to Ms G...H3ad after making the kief and asked her a coule questions..she recommended I try bubble and some bags…I got a 5 Bag kit off the Internet then and am just getting around to doing this. Bubble is about the best form of meds for me so here we go…
I had about an ounce, maybe more, of shake and popcorn buds in the freezer from my previous years Lapis Indica grow: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=100085&page=7 ....it was quite awhile back
…and an couple ounces of my Kryptos Trainwreck X Bluemoonshine bud and shake from this year: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=136343 all dried and cured for a month.
I combined these and started the process..I have never seen it done or tried it before so I relied mostly from threads here at IC Mag..and instructions from the Bubblebag site. I saw on another site someone recommended wooden spoons..so I whittled me one to fit my electric drill. I whipped this mixture up for 45 minutes..slow.to medium..and every speed in between..no fast. About two sacks of good crushed ice were used, the weed was pre-frozen. After draining I pressed it using the pressing screen that came with the kit and a towel..rolling with a mason jar. Then placed on cardboard to dry overnight. The numbers represent the numbers on the bags pulled with #1 being the finest or smallest , #4 being the second bag pulled.

Not bad at all for your first batch ever...

Next time try this out...
Put your ice and frozen trim into the bags as normal...
Gently(nothing near as forceful as mechanical agitation) stir by hand for only 4 to 5 minutes..
Pull your bags...

This is how I get the most glands with the least contaminants (tiny leaf bits and what not)...

You can then set up and run the trim again normally for about the same amount of less pure bubble...

I usually only smoke the 70 micron bag from a 3 or 4 minute stir... most of the second run gets cooked with or given away...

Hey Doobie...which type of bags did you pick up? I see alot of newer cheeper bags going on sale from ebay...just not too sure of their quality? Been thinking about grabbing a cheap set recently....have always used the bag-free method myself. Enjoy brutha!

Hey DD, looking good! A piece of advice: When you pull the bag, have a clean terrycloth bath towel laying around, set the bag on the towel, it'll suck up alot of the water through the mesh. Then scrape. I use a different method, using screen and buckets; I just pull the screen, the hash is collected in one area. I set it on the towel for a bit and blot it. I then pop the screen in the freezer for a few minutes, and the hash peels off like a frozen loogie! You might wanna try it with your bags (the freezer trick), maybe it'll eliminate the scraping step for ya.

take those chunks out on occasion,moisture will still creep to the outside as frost that can be wiped away,its better to crumble it for drying,a few days at least,if you are going to press or roll into balls flatten it out so it can finish drying.hash will "cure" in much the same way as bud. i have also used silica packets to help speed drying.

Thanks Fish...I'll keep an eye on it. It was pressed out about as thick as a 1/2 dollar. I am wondering if I need to freeze it at all? DD

only over the long term,if you think you will smoke it quickly,just treat it like curing bud,ie open it up every few days and check.i usually just run mine through a sieve to crumble it up like keif,if i am going to press it i use a water warmed steel block and a vise to make hash,at that point it can be stored like bud freezing not really necessary.

Thanks for the tips, Gr3atful! I have been stirring 15 minutes, and have been getting a darker hash most of the time, not really green, dark... I'll have to try the 4-5 minute stir...

Always use a spoon. I'll have to try that wooden spoon in a drill trick... Making hash wears out my arms, as well as my friends. The settling period smoke sessions help speed recovery... Most of the time I don't have electricity where I'm making the hash though.... The thing I like about hand stirring is you can bring up the material from the bottom of the bag by stirring bottom to top, hopefully knocking more trichomes off....

More stirring will knock more trichomes off, but only a few.
The vast majority of them break off simply from being frozen and immersed in ice water.

This can be demonstrated by simply doing the following experiment...
Once you get all of your trim, Ice, and Water in your bucket... only stir it enough to make sure the trim is not all wadded up... 30 or 40 seconds very gently... pull the bags... you'll find nearly as much bubble as you would get from several minutes of stirring...

you can always rerun the trim if you think there are more resins...

One point, you are not trying to knock off the entire trichome stalk, only the swollen gland heads on top of them... that's where almost all of the resins are...
