600W CAB and COCO meet Dr.Bud

Hello all. Some time ago I grew out some really stinky dope with big big colas....

Ultra Sonja (GrindHouse Medical Seed Co.)

UK Cheese X Tang Tang males (exceptional males found in blue sonja line, a blockhead cross)---->>(Note - mine are an earlier generation and did not include Tang Tang males ;))

After viewing the Good Doctor's Threads I gave this some serious thought to what might happen if I cloned my keeper ultra sonja, as they produce this amazing single huge cola *wink*

The idea is to run 64 clones, probably staggered into 32 and 32, and instead of 16oz pop bottles I'll be running either 2 litre milk bottles or 2L juice containers, Dr.Bud Greengenes-style - click here to be amazed :woohoo:

Here is Dr.Bud and what his 16oz pop bottles can grow....

I'm going bigger flower containers than Dr.Bud's so hopefully it'll mean I can veg a lil longer, and am hoping the extra medium will help the plants from getting too rootbound, as they tend to run long.

I just spent an hour or so playing with trimming the milk containers down to a functional size, and with this type of setup I can run 1.5 litres (50 oz) of medium in each container, which seems good to me.

This is gonna be fun.

well it's ultra sonja, my keeper as you see above ^^

I'm taking a few pics now to give you guys a better idea of what I'm thinking ;)

here's a quick pic of my VEG CAB (done a few things since then)

with thanks to King Ralph's thread DIY Aero Cloner, that let's me do 32 at a time

I need to organise VEG CFLs for the cloner, which is exactly where you see it in the picture

some pics & questions about my idea

some pics & questions about my idea

I read thru all the Dr.Bud threads over the past 12 months and forgot specifics so will be asking some questions probably already amidst the 100-odd pages of dr bud grows, but i've forgotten but still inspired by hehe

And thank you Dr.Bud Greengenes for being innovative, to Thunderkel and friends for advertising with such religious zealousnous, your church appreciates it :respect:

I don't know if I will press forward or not, will be weighing all voices and deciding if I'll chance a run.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

To me it seems the real question to be answered is will 600W HPS be able to penetrate the 64-66 clones I'm hoping to run, or will I need to supplement lighting or even reduce the number of clones?

I read in a recent scan through doc's threads where Doc admitted the secret lies in the ability to saturate the plants in light to a certain point (something to do with the inverse law? I didn't really get that bit ;)), and wonder if any problems getting sufficient light penetration might be resolved by increasing the space between each container, so the 3.75"-4" that each container takes up will be expanded to even 1" in between, maybe lose 1-2 in the length so instead of having 6 rows of 11 (66 clones), maybe just 60 or 54.

I assume this is how it'll work, if necessary. But I can fit 6 rows of 11 in the tray that lives in my cab and air-cooled 600watter hps being ducted into roof cavity thru home-made scrubber.

I have intentions of moving to cfl in the same space I'm using hps, I will experiment on a smaller scale by making a smaller box for a friend who needs meds to help her with Alzheimer's, which she and I find secretly amazing, that she feels better with cannabis in her life and isn't forgetting like she was. She eats a little in cookie form each morning and is getting her life back!!! It's inspiring to witness but terribly sad that we gotta do it so secretively =(

Dang, went off track ;)

On to the pics....

2L milk bottle

what kind of plastic? recycle symbol number 2 - high density polyethylene plastic HDPE

is it ok or will nutes affect it and cause some nasty discharge?

what about the stronger more rectangular juice container? #1 recycle symbol - Polyethylene Terephthalate (PETE) or (PET)

I love leaving a bit of the handle on, it gives it more strength when I move it, and is easy to pick it up by

picture.php

plenty of room and 1.5 litres of medium!!

picture.php

seems to drain ok, I'll need to cal/mag and cannazyme it and flush em heaps before using

picture.php

The grow space is - 27"(d) x 43"(w) x 62"(h)

6 deep x 11 long (use your imagination, I'll get em before I need em ;))

i think i remember reading somewhere that milk bottles retain milk solids even after lots of washing, which can lead to fungus or something or other...

Milk and Cornflake the perfect combination.
:lurk:

Good luck with the grow, I think you should get the results you want with that set-up.

What is your target yeild per plant?

thanks bass ;)

well, the ultra sonja is a proven yielder (3oz easy in 12" pots)(2oz easy in 6" pots), and I was then running basic canna coco nutes (a+b, cannazyme, rhizotonic and pk13/14) and epsom salts @ 2tsp per 20L bucket, 24 hrplus pH6.0 aerated tap water .

now I'm running basics plus blackstrap and boost, so hoping on big big buds.

doc has years of practice getting his technique down, this'll be my first try so I dn't expect to be pulling what he does BUT he's using 1/3rd the medium volume and we're running different strains.

my strain should yield in this situation, check the buds....

I hope for 1oz per but would be VERY happy with 1/2oz per, that would be 30oz and that would be TWICE as much as cab usually yields ;)

still wondering about light penetration. My clones will be packed in less tightly than dr.bud's but I'm wondering if the single 600W will be enough or maybe I could supplement around the periphery of the cab, lower but so many packed. hmmmmm......

yo thanks sneakinman for dropping in, any experience on bottle types and disadvantages of using either??

hi gravy, sure hope it works ;p

-------------------------------

In fact I've pretty much decided to chance it, as said if I only see 1/2oz per it's still worth the effort. 2 things I must do first is decide upon bottle type, and to test run my diy aero cloner with a couple of victims, to fine tune it before needing to take my 30 clones.

I'll probably run around 40 ultra sonja and 20 alpha diesels, as that's what mum plants I have big enough to cut from.

Getting excited ;)

clone zone update

The pressure is on to get the aero cloner tested and working properly well before my harvest at Chrsistmas, to free up the FLOWER cab and run these 60-odd clones.

some progress in wiring the cfls

some progress in wiring the cfls

I will be running 4 x 25W cool white cfl's, a small 15cm fan for ventilation, a 12cm computer fan for exhaust and the 32 site aero cloner.

The VEG cab sits above clone zone...

A false ceiling will house the cfl wiring...

picture.php

No wiring done, just checking to see where cfls will be positioned...

picture.php

I cut a small hole behind each batten holder, to allow the wiring to pass thru'...

I cover this with panda film and install fan, then check it out....
