help identify this flower/vine

the pretty cool vine w/ flowers that came over my fence from my neighbors.

they only bloom in the morning, and by afternoon it just looks like a plain ol' vine.

anyone know what this plant is?

Yeah watch that one, it will take over quickly. You can extract lsd from the seeds.

yea thats a heavenly blue morning glory
Ipomoea tricolor
and lsa isnt even the active component in the plant that substance was tested and found to have no activity, but there are lysergic acid related compounds in the plant which are hallucinogenic

LA-111, ergine, d-lysergamide. This is an active compound and has been established as a major component in morning glory seeds. It was assayed for human activity, by Albert Hofmann in self-trials back in 1947, well before this was known to be a natural compound. An i.m. administration of a 500 microgram dose led to a tired, dreamy state with an inability to maintain clear thoughts. After a short period of sleep, the effects were gone and normal baseline was recovered within five hours. Other observers have confirmed this clouding of consciousness leading to sleep. The epimer, inverted at C-8, is isoergine or d-isolysergamide, and is also a component of morning glory seeds. Hofmann tried a 2 milligram dose of this amide, and as with ergine, he experienced nothing but tiredness, apathy, and a feeling of emptiness. Both compounds are probably correctly dismissed as not being a contributor to the action of these seeds. It is important to note that ergine, as well as lysergic acid itself, is listed as a Schedule III drug in the Controlled Substances Act, as a depressant. This is, in all probability, a stratagem to control them as logical precursors to LSD.

Trust me I checked before blabbing..

The seeds of several varieties of Morning Glory (Ipomoea violacea) contain a naturally occurring indole called Lysergic Acid Amide (LSA), which is closely related to LSD. Seeds are taken orally, and can be eaten whole or the active alkaloids can be extracted.

all in all I dont want to argue with you.. Seems we have conflicting research.. And if I wanted to trip I have an abundence of LSD blotter here..

#1 they only say thats its one compound found in the seeds, they dont say its the active compound
#2 they say "closely related" but do not specifiy how it is related (it is structurally related!)
you simply assume that relation to lsd means it will also be psychedelic, but as was found out, its not

It has been 35 years,but I remember that plant quite well.

There was a book, published by 'Stone Kingdom', I believe that had a few recipes for different homemade drugs. Got it from a head shop ( actually Tower of Records) around '74 . One recipe involved Morning Glory seeds.
Well we didn't have the chemicals that were necessary, so we just ate the seeds. Big mistake as we both got violently ill. At the time we believed the Arasan 50 on the seeds is what made us ill, as the seed package said "the seeds herein contain Arasan 50" on it.

So being the curious little monkey's that we were, we decided to follow the instructions, with the correct chemicals. I had a chemistry class and was able to get ahold of the wood alcohol (methanol) and Petroleum Ether along with a seperatory funnel.

We figured we just needed some clean seeds, free of the Arasan 50, so we started going from store to store looking for some. They all contained Arasan 50. Going to school one day we spot the largest Heavenly Blue hedge growing over a fence.

Of course we go back later and take the whole damn plant.
Followed the instructions in the "book" and filled large red gelatin capsules with the finished dried "product".

Took em to a party and passed em out. Waited an hour to make sure everyone was enjoying them with no side effects and then we popped ours.

It was a mild colorful trip that lasted til the next day.

I have read arguments going back and forth that the seeds do not get you high. Well, they did (probably 1000 mg per capsule), and I have since read that it is actually the seed husks that get you sick and that is why the instructions called for you to soak the seeds in water first. We were told by a florist that the Arasan 50 was to repel birds. I have since read that it is a fungicide used for Heavenly Blue seeds.

I am sure you will hear both sides of the 'they get you high' 'no they don't ' argument.
