How do I get the biggest yeild out of a 400w HPS?

SCROG. There was a guy on here who got 450g off a 400w using the scrog method. I think it was also just 1 plant, not sure though.

I was thinking vert, only because I don't have the time it would take to do a monster scrog.

SOG with clones of a solid, short, and heavy yielding indica strain. Because yield maximization is key, does the time factor play into the methods?

can you do a horizontal scrog in a vertical grow or does that pretty much defeat the purpose? one or the other right? or vertical screen.

yes. i get 15oz per 430w hps of skunk #2 afghan indica. pure sativa grows yielded much less, while taking longer.

Yes, and it is much underrated. You just have a ScroG Screen setup in something other than a 2d flat field, either make it like a valley and grow plants into the screen, or using a screen to control a Colisseum type 3d grow.

To answer the OP, a SoG will give the biggest yield, quickest, but a ScroG will take a week or 10 days longer, yet give almost the same yield. Going to the vertcal styles can increase your potential dramatically, but it is trickier and the techniques are TBH, in their infancy in terms of development. You will also probably have to use more plant #s..... if that is an issue.

Best yield for 400 hps :

Veg for 70 + days
scrogs
= 1 elbow ez

:)

If you grow from clones not seed, in Hydro you only need a few hours or days of veg before flowering 4", 6" or 8" tall clones in 6"² each, a SoG, 48 or 49 plants per square meter, 4 per square foot, finished in as little as 7 weeks in total.

The SoG target is 10gpp, an easy 490gM², the trick is consistency and then exceeding the 10gpp target with practice.

By going vertical, you get more growing area from your 400, so could have 100 or more clones with just a 400w. T

Good info!

I tested a grow not to long ago with a single 400 htc hps on 1 girl, but by mistake was i didnt use the scrog method. i just let the plant grow.

I vegged her for 60 + days using RDWC in a 18 gal bucket. When i switch her to 12/12 she was stading 4.5ft tall and had over 50 budding sites.
If i use scrog method i think i would've gotten more .

Finish was 850g wet/ 430g dry. very very close to 1 elbow :D
cheers

Plant numbers aren't an issue so...
if I do a scrog would it be better to use one plant or multiple plants?
also im going to be growing in a soil/coco mixture.

Does anyone know where I some good posts on vertical Scrog and SoGs?

And finally what are some pure indica strains that have super high THC contents? :yoinks:

On my first grow...nobody told me ...you can't flower 13 female plants under a 400 watt HPS light...in a small closet!...Damn!..I'm not throwing anybody out!....so...

I had a separate dark room, available....so...I just rotated half the plants from the dark room to the grow light closet...every 12 hours...for 60+ days.... ...it was a lotta work...but, worth it.

I had enough smoke for over a year...

That would mean your weed still has 50% of it's water weight. If I remember correctly fresh cut marijuana is about 85% water by weight. If you dry and cure correctly your buds should contain no more then 15% water by weight and no less then 10-12% water by weight.

850 grams x 0.85 = 722.5 grams

850 grams - 722.5 grams = 127.5 grams or 4.5 ounces and 1.5 grams (give or take a few grams).
