Is there any point to these fuckers? Should I chop them all off???

Do not chop them off unless absolutely necessary, tuck them. They are the lungs of the plant.

The fan leaves are the life sustainers of the plant.They take in the light to build energy to convert starches to sugars and get the process of photosynthesis and the building up of chlorophyll going.

As qwerty said ^ tuck them,fold them any way you can and only chop when need be,like if the leaf is dying.

what a question, some people say leave them all, some say chop all and everything in between.

I read a bubblegum grow where he chopped them 2 weeks into flower and again the last 2 weeks. He had full buds all the way to the base of the stem, no popcorn buds at all.

I've been chopping all the fans around the top buds so that the lower ones can get good light and leaving the bottom ones but removing the lowest buds in the deep shade 2 weeks in.

I think it is personal preference more than anything. I haven't seen any in depth side by side grows showing the difference.

nature gave plants fan leaves for a reason...i see no reason to remove them all..have people done it and had successful grows ? yes ...but countless more grows have been done WITH them.....just thin them as they block light from lower branches / buds and obviously remove any yellowing...good luck

no there is no point to having fan leaves, mother nature is a vindictive bitch and she puts them there just to make you have to work harder.

leaves manufacture the carbs that make the plant grow. these are mobile throughout the plant. some people say remove them but i suspect this is because they cant just leave their plants alone to grow. who is a better judge than the plant on how many leaves it needs?

i do scrog and still dont remove leaves - if anyone who believes in removing leaves gets better yields than me then please let me know (grow diary link is in my sig)

like was said before don't cut em off unless you have too.....I have seen some experiments where they strip the fan leaves on indica dom strains to increase light penetration for bigger yeilds but there has never been any solid proof.....
