Reguarding what you do before you kill males

So... maybe i'm one of those nutjobs, or not.. not posting this to get flamed.

anyways, Do any of you have any rituals or anything like that before pruning or sacrificing your males?

this is my first grow, But i feel bad, like i can feel the plant screaming and pouting when i cut it, And then when i have to cull a male i feel almost demon like for killing it.

I sat before the plant and meditated until i could feel its life force.. and then i peeled the plant off its stem like a banana and just inhaled the sweet sticky aroma, and i proceeded to cut it off the stem, and pull up the roots. then the best looking leaves i kept pressed in a book.

I still feel bad for killing him

I mean... does anyone else think about the fact that this plant is sacred to our ancestors and should be to us as well.. rather then just choping them down and throwing them away don't they deserve some kind of last rights?

The first few grows I had growers remorse. I shook it off

It depends on what I'm doing. If I am low on seeds, I let the males pollinate a female. If I don't need seeds I just cut em and toss em.

I usually go with the instructions provided in the Mothers of Invention 2nd LP, Absolutely Free. Called the Invocation & Ritual Dance Of The Young Pumpkin. Boogie first, then cut. You'll get over it........From that point on all the males will know when they hear a killer clarinet solo that the Young Pumpkin is coming for them. LOL. A great excuse to grill out too.

Skip the book thing. I tried it and forgot them. They came back to haunt me after I got married. I had a lot of books and it seems a leaf from everything I tried in those early years. But what a conversation starter. But yeah, skip the book idea. Ya never know....besides you wouldn't keep anything else that shouldn't be found on a shelf in your living room would ya. I got lucky, you may not if some one is over and by chance grabs just the right one. We found leaves for a long time 'til we sat down and went thru everything. Sure, I was gonna remember where they were all at too.....not!!!

But Im quite happy this round... Got 10/17 females... My last one I ended up with 5/15 girls!! Lawd was I vexed!!!

Yo how do you guys get pollen from the male and how specifically do you store it? I'm holding back on so many strains because I want to interbreed with them but don't have space to keep the males for long periods... I didn't know you could store their pollen!!

Glass jar in the freezer with a few pieces of dry white rice to absorb any moisture. It has to stay dry, cold, and in the dark.

Another thought from way back when.....
Grew 1 7ft plant in small apt (years ago). 2 pairs of 4 ft floros. Dang, it went male but I had heard and did this by luck, that if you cut a male at just the right time they can be great. Well I did and it was. Only made 5 average bowls (no leaf please) but a buddy and I still talk about that Fri nite and how good that weed was.

Get it as close as you can to the "poof" moment, cut, take the flowers and itty bitty surrounding leaves and give it a try. You might be surprised. It won't make much, but if you got nothing else it may pacify you or it may surprise you for a day.

hehe I remember my first grow... its hard to cull something you've nutured, especially when it seems so healthy... in fact the first time, I had to get my mate to do it


Nowadays I just say "sorry mate" pop a refuse bag over him and flip the pot upside down..."later feller"


p.s youre not the only person to do whacky stuff like this btw, I also thank each and every female for all her past hard work and coming fortune.. individually, one at a time... my missus thinks I'm barking ....*woof*

I have no remorse. Plants don't have feelings and I usually get annoyed that they're male and toss them with soil and all in the compost pile. My friend suggests I take my anger out on them with my katana.

The one thing I do think about though, is how in the near future we humans will feasibly not need males to reproduce.

my other one has pistils so im happy about that, And i have 6 others im waiting on... hopefuly one will be strong enough and i can make a bonsai mother, no more seeds YAAAAAAAY...

Haha... yeah, no major feelings these days, but I do make a few seeds with the most vigorous male or two to keep for a rainy day. The feeling I really hate though is seeing balls on the best looking plant during veg. Now THAT always sucks.
