115w CFL Grow

Hey everyone whats up?

This is my first attempt at growing, although i have had some limited experience in the past while helping my friend with his PC grow. He is also a member on IC Mag, he'll show up soon! I shall be using my cab as mainly a veg cab, until my friend harvests his current grow. Then transferring one or hopefully a few into his PC case and both starting 12/12 flowering.

So i've recently acquired a small cab from this same friend, the dimensions are approx. 13 x inches x 13 inches x 14 inches. From the exterior the cab looks a bit crap. However the inside has been decked out with 5 x 23w CFL 2700k and 1380 lumens each = 115w of CFL with 6900 lumens. The great thing about these bulbs is that they only cost €3 for 5 at my local store.

There's 2 80mm PC fans one for intake and exhaust both 20db, and its pretty quiet. I have also added some reflective sheeting inside and attempted to seal as many light leaks as possible using some tape lol. I have installed a small garden thermometer in the cab too, however i feel i may have to put another PC fan to suck in a bit more air in and cool the temps, i am currently only running 4 bulbs due to the temp issue.

I currently have access to a few seeds, some of them are bag seeds, but hey, why waste them? There are several to choose from to start my grow:

11 x Turkish landrace my friend picked up whilst in Turkey which i think is called Turkish delight
13 x Thai sativa seeds
1 x bag seed which came from a whole 1/2 oz of "Roast Chicken", and its perfectly named as it smells and tastes of exactly that! Its unknown if it is sativa/indica but we will soon find out! The smoke from this was a knock out smoke! I can't remember the last time i coughed so much!
6 x Purple Widows
4 x LowRyder #2
And about 40-50 bag seeds for trail runs and also mini grows in shot glasses, bonsai ceramic bowls etc.

Let me know what you guy's would like to see!

Lastly here is a male that is beginning his 6th week, just collecting some pollen from him then he'll probably get chopped.

:fsu:

Any comments, questions and advice, please feel free to post!

One thing, get rid of your intake fan and make it passive. If you have room use two fans for exhaust. It will greatly reduce your temps with a passive intake! reason being is when you have an active intake it swirls the air around in your cab and makes it harder for your active exhaust to pull out heat. Instead move that intake fan so you have two exhaust fans as high in your cab as possible and that will reduce your heat problems.

other than that, Good Luck with your grow man!!!!

Hey Jetta

I'm definitely going to get a new fan/exhaust when i have the funds and possibly make a few passive intakes, but how would i prevent light leaks? When i checked the temp earlier it was at 24 degrees celsius, the male in there seems to like it, and the soil isn't drying out to fast either.

I've got a few seeds germinating (thai & 2 bag seeds) which should be ready to pop in soil anytime now. And the male has opened about 15% of his sacks, so he should be gone soon, leaving a bit more pace for the grow.

Hey everyone, just having a joint reading through the forum and thought i'd update. Sorry i've not updated in a while but to be honest not much has been happening. I have chopped the male down and am allowing him to reveg, i've figured i might aswell make use of him and make some seeds as i can't afford any good genetics right now.

Got a few new seedlings. Just two bag seeds from my freind, they are looking healthy and growing steadily, and one 6 week old, unsexed plant that is under about 2", i put this into a plastic cup with more space for root growth and fed it some tomato feed with the molasses to see if it picks up.

Oh and i have some turkish landrace seeds and one thai seed germinating at the moment, hopefully we'll see some slpit in a few days. And i should be doing a picture update...

Peace

Seeing doesn;t matter to me.

I helped someone learn to grow and he insisted on planting every seed I gave him. He only had four lights, but eventually he managed to flower some. The guy is stoked, and I was glad to help.

Cheers Scrub :joint: thanks for the suggestion, it sounds like a very interesting method and something that i may perhaps try in the future once i have a bit more experience and ladies. As for photos i should be doing an update when there is a bit more progress. But here is what we have so far:

The 6 week old is now showing some signs of picking up, although the lower leafs have started to yellow there seems to be some slow new growth, and the leaves are now starting to show some true leafs. And it looks like we might have a hermie, i'm not surprised as it has been really stressed :fsu:

The two seedlings are picking up pace, one is at 11 days from seed, the other at 9 days from seed, both are looking healthy and growing steadily, but i'll probably repot them at the end of this week or mid next week. And there is currently three seeds planted that successfully germd including the Thai! Yay! :yoinks:

Thanks for stopping in facelift

Hello All

I thought it was about time that i showed you all what i'm working with. I'd like to apologize for my shit camera too!

In the rear we have the male thats been reveging for a few weeks, then front left to right we have a 7 week old (hermie?) and its tiny! Then two bag seeds both labelled G.B.S and the one under the cup is Thai which popped soil this morning! :woohoo:

G.B.S 2:

G.B.S 1:

Thai:

7 week old Turkish:

:fsu: CFLs. YEAH!

Average room Temps:

Does anyone know what i can do to try and promote root growth in the 7 week old slag? I'd really like to see it pull through.

Thanks for looking, TokeSolo :joint:

Dude, I can't see a single pic you posted on this thread. Try making the album not private if you've done that.

Thanks man, working great now! :D

Is that plant 7 weeks old from seed? You suggested it may be hermie earlier, any reason for that, or just cos it grows slow? I would incorporate kelp into your feedings in veg, it has natural hormones and stuff that enhances root growth and plant health (not just blurb from the label, plenty of threads on IC if you want to check). It also looks to me like it's a little nitrogen starved or underfed in general. The top can't grow if the bottom can't supply it, and vice versa, so aim to pick it up overall, and you may get an overall surprise :) Just keep the balance.

Yeah its 7 weeks from seed, I think it is because it was in another container for the first five weeks that had another plant in it and the was o lot of restricted root growth and it became really stressed when repotted, yellowing leafs, curling of the leaves, etc. I take back what I said about it maybe being a hermie, balls have cropped up over night so i'm now 75% certain its male, i'll let it grow for another week maybe just to be sure then its comin down.

I think I might have to invest some time in researching kelp and organic teas, i'd love to make my own. But to be honest if it can't be saved or turns out male for def then i'm not too bothered, its more of a learning grow than anything and I have way better genetics available so i'm not too bothered about this one. I'm just glad I have some activity in the cab!

Cheers

Update:

Update:

Been a while since my last update and things are starting to look a lot greener :woohoo:

The re-vegged male was chopped down today and so was the smaller male, leaving a bit more space for the younglings. All are looking really healthy and starting to grow nicely. The plan is to veg these babies until their sex shows which i hope will be at week 6-8 then relocating to my friends PC switch to 12/12

Anyway on with the pics...

2 x G.B.S, 2 x Turkish & 2 x Thai, and a cup of water just to keep it humid in there, gets a bit too dry without it

G.B.S About 2 weeks from seed

G.B.S 2 weeks from seed

Only 2 days difference between these two…

Those G.B.S are looking good! They seem better in terms of genetics, faster growth than the Thai and Turkish bag seeds. Hopefully I'll have space in my case for them in a couple of weeks

Plan is to veg these out till the get nice and bushy then a trim and take clones before moving to my cab. We need a bigger grow space for these so it's something we are looking into.
