How bad is owning a scale?

I buy all my supplements (non illegal) in bulk and weigh them out before putting them into capsules.

You can buy 100 grams of caffeine powder for a few dollars but if you have no scale, STAY AWAY. I nearly wanted to volunteer myself in the loony bin because I was off by a bit trying to use the ridiculous "1/10th of a teaspoon" type measurements they put on packages.

I also have hobbies that require a scale (finding/analyzing gemstones which need to be weighed, winemaking, biology, etc..).

But I also measure illegal drugs. I don't sell, I don't plan on selling. But if you analyze the scale you'll find a barrage of schedule A substances, I'm sure.

Should I get rid of my scale? How about just keeping it clean? Do they check to see how it was used or do they just find any scale in the house and automagically label you a wholesaler?

The problem with owning a scale is that it directly implies that you are selling weed, just like having small zip lock bags laying around all over the house.

Although the law varies from place to place, it's still pretty straight forward and based on common sense.

A + B = C

I'm fairly sure that if the cops found the scale, they would also try to link it to distribution no matter what you say. You might be able to talk yourself out of the situation but it would not be easy, near impossible if they find traces of weed on the scale.

They call it as they see it. The bottom line is that it looks very bad on paper when you go to court.

Nothing to get too paranoid about but you can never be too safe either.

You should do whatever brings you peace of mind.

I don't think scales themselves are the problem

It is the other items that they may put along with this as paraphenelia

Imagine them hauling out your sandwhich bags and the scale. Maybe you are on a diet?

Find rolling papers? Then it is just one more thing.

If you are worried about getting your scale dirty, why not cover the weigh pad with plastic wrap before weighing someting

I've wondered about this too. I have triple-beam balance, but technically my company bought and owns it. I use it for my job mainly. But since it's here, I use it for personal (illegal) things as well.

same thing with having a bong WITHOUT a med card versus having a bong WITH a med card.

Agree with the A + B = C as said above as well. Sucks how it is BUT that's how we get to enjoy freedom nowadays.

It gives them a reason to look upon you in a different light in court unless you have a reason for them and keep them stored away from any weed or baggies. If you are an E-Bayer a simple print out of transactions can justify why you own a set unless of course they were discovered in your drying room next to a box of baggies.

I think it is important to differentiate between the headlines/news of the bust and what happens in court...police charge with everything they can so they have a stronger position in getting some type of conviction- lawyers job is to get as much as possible dismissed..

no matter...as long as drugs or cannabis was found near scales it's a damn good possiblilty "intent to sell" will be added to the list of charges...should the worst ever happen. baggies too...even tho they're as common as dirt and in everyone's kitchen drawers, it can still be construed as "intent to sell".

basically, its a gamble. If they see a scale or find one, I'm sure there gonna bring it along in your case, of trying to sell. if it gets thrown out or not, it's gonna be brought along to the station

nothing you can really do. I suggest if your worried, to buy a "hidden scale" , like ones that look like cd cases and the sort.
