purple plants with ice cubes

i decided to try a little experiment.i was trying to shock the plants with slowly releasing ice cooled water to turn the plants purple faster(gdp and purple kush)similar to a big temperature drop at night.

60 degrees for two hours a day for one week.(never measured)

i used around 8 ice cubes per 5 gallon pot during the start of a two week flush.never having to water.this way i could use ice cubes every day for a week without my soil getting water logged.

the ice cubes where used during lights on.taking about an hour to melt.(im sure using ice cubes right before lights go out would make the ice cubes last a lot longer and the soil colder longer).

it worked, the plants feed ice cooled water purpled faster.

the plants feed room temperature water purpled up a week later.

if i used ice cubes for the full two weeks i might have had more dramatic results.

having a bunch of extra ice cube trays might be ok for small grows, but large grows might be a pain.

I had a friend put a pick-up truck bed full of ice on a garden bed around some plants and it turned them very purple almost overnight. Sneaky little trick but whatever works. I was very surprised. They were a purple strain and he was just trying to give them a little jump start.

Purple leaves or purple calyxes? I have seen plenty of strains whose leaves purple but leave the calyxes very green.

The ice trick I saw mostly changed the leaves. They were purple plants anyways and just needed a little push in the right direction.

I've heard of a friend doing simmilar thing but from memory it didn't effect his strain...intresting tho..so the purple colour must develope when the soil temp drops rapidly as apposed to air temp?

Seems intuitive that such a technique would work, if the genes are there. How about using dry ice and get C02 in the bargain?

In reality, it is probably slowing growth of the plant. Just because it is purple does mean it is better.

Personally rather have extra bud, than purple bud.

my purple urkle responds to nitrogen all the way thru flower a 2-6-8 ..if i run nitrogen on others like cheese,satori,c99,ice etc i get linky plants for obvious reasons but for some reason my purps love it...youll first notice the "fall colors" on fan leaves and in final 4 weeks all purpl calyxes...love that urkle great yielder and that grape smell is unbelievable

Hmm, i wonder if you could just add a bunch of dry ice to a res and water with that cold-assed water a few days in a row.

:smokeit:I think I'm going to try this ice cube method. At the very least it could make your weed look decorative. Even if it doesn't make the smoke better, if you have some good stuff growing it'll turn out looking good really good, not that doesn't already. Just a thought.:smokeit:

I had a friend who swore by ice cubes on top of the soil. Hell he sometimes watered with ice water.. I would stick to the on top of the soil method, I think doing too much just stresses em out..
