disfunktional just do some training if they start taking up to much room
look into lst and scrog
and you can get the plants pretty close to the light as long as you have good air flow

Found 150w HPS!!!

Found 150w HPS!!!

Hi all. New to this craft, new to this forum and new to this thread. I've been lurking on this and other sites to find info on small personal growing. I must say first of all, this has got to be the best thread on the net right now about 150's. Anything you need to know is on here.

So I find myself at work the other day pondering when I will be setting up my own grow. While I'm contemplating the pros and cons of lamp optins, ventilation, seed vs clone and light cycle choices, I look to my side and see perched upon an ever-growing pile of clag a rectangular box that so resembles an outdoor security light. Interesting.

The neighbors must have thrown it out! This thing was certainly set out to rot with the other trash under it. So I picks it up, brings it home and puts it in the garage.

Today I wired up a short extension cord end to it to see if the damn thing works, all the while thinking that I just brought home another piece of shite to sit in the garage for 5 years until I get around to throwing it away. Oh well, here goes nothing......

It works! I will post up here when I get my box together and running.

Does anyone know of a good source for parts to build a DIY climate control AKA thermostatic fan switch? I think I'd like to try and modulate my exhaust fan ON time to keep the temps as close to Ideal as possible. Or would it be better to just put the fan on a VR and just dial it in to run constantly?

I will be using a 12v DC 18-wheeler tractor ventilation squirrel cage fan with a custom cool-tube to keep the light cool and a small computer fan to exchange air within the growing chamber. The 12v fans are easy to speed-up and slow-down by altering output voltage from the transformer. Ideally I suppose, a thermostatically controlled voltage REGULATOR would allow the fan to speed up when things get hot, and just run at a slow idle when everything is cool. Anyone else doing this?? I guess one thing to consider is that a DC motor uses the least power to run at it's maximum RPM due to counter-EMF....... Maybe run the cool tube full blast all the time and control the growing chamber fans' speed to keep an even temperature.

We'll see.

Is this Idea half-baked? Maybe I'm just fully baked!!!

thanx both of you!! that was very helpful info. iv yet to build the cab yet and im about to that point of the build. iv got 28" to 30" to play with from floor to ceiling.i would like to get away with 28", but my sump will be takeing up 10" of that plus the distance to the trellis(around 6" to 7") and the light wont be right up against the ceiling. being a newb to growing i wasnt sure if that would leave enough room for the growth above the trellis and under the light. as far as airflow im thinking of going with a 150 cfm fan and the vent will be directly over the light, and im still contemplateing a small axial fan blowing on the light itself.

Don't know about the ship to Canada part. All that info should be on the web site. I think e-conolight still has a security light for ~$42.

"Drop shipping" is common. You usually have separate fields for "Bill To" and Ship To." Stealthy? If you're talking about a big picture of the grow lamp pasted to the outside of the box, HTG uses plain brown boxes. You can ask any of these folks if they ship discreet.

Stanley blowers are good for ventilation. You'll have more than enough air flow for a 150HPS.

I'll leave the last question for Canadian peeps. Hope this helps.:witch:

I also had this problem...I ended up ordering a sunsystem 150w from a company in the states and it cost over $250 with shipping......If i had to do it all again which i probably will....I would recommend going to peavy mart......they sell a 150w hps security light for 79.99 so all you would have to do is convert it to a remote ballast system.....

Thanks for the info, bengie187. I'll be a little more careful who I recommend for our Canadian grower friends.

EDIT: I just received another message about posting too much in the 150 club and thinking it belongs to me.:witch:

Disclaimer - DiscoBiscuit does not realize he's posting too much in this thread. DiscoBiscuit does not think this thread belongs to him.

DiscoBiscuit will leave the building upon request.

I also hope the peep that stays so up close and personal will also get lost.:witch:

I'll just read what's going on in the background.

Happy growing, all.:D

Yeah no worries.....disco if i was to order from econolight which i did not i think it was gonna come out a bit cheaper but the shipping just kills us.....thats why i recommend peavymart

Neoborn Another suggestion goto Eccol electric or an Eletrical Supply store of that nature and you could get all the components from them but they sometimes dont sell to people because they arnt a retail store but if your in the trades they usually make exceptions

DiscoBiscuit: dont sweat whoever is telling you that. all your posts have been very helpful to all. whoever it is needs to realize that we are all here to learn and teach. that being said i hope that you dont stay in the back ground. peace man

Ok so I have tried to type this intro 3 times and its pissing me off so I made a vid. that Explains the Grow box Design and such all by me, Frankenstein. The first vio is the grow box design, second on is about 3 weeks into veg, and the First one is also day 25 of flowering, plant lifetime day 58.

I am still new to this so if anyone see's anything that could use a tip or two let me know.

If you wont be able to open the door much, how do you plan to provide your plants w/ventilation. Plants need fresh air too. If you keep an ocilating fan blowing on your canopy at all times a 150 shouldn't burn your plants. You'll most likely have to water them more often though. A lot depends on the ambient temps too.

SPOILER: This post has nothing to do with Growing, Harvesting, Smoking Pot, or any other Marijuana related subject. It’s a bit of a personal rant that I’ve chosen to indulge myself with. If you feel this may offend or bother you in any way, I suggest you not read it. If you choose to read it and feel the need to flame me for it, because of its content or inappropriateness with regards to this forum, feel free to do so. You won’t hurt my feelings. Still with me? OK then….

I tend to take a very Darwinian view and approach to most things in life. I feel most things should be left to either survive & flourish or slowly pass away based on their own merits. I think this is true for both major and minor subjects. Case in point: While I have 2 wonderful adult sons, I will likely never know the joy of being a Grandparent. The specific reasons are unimportant, but on a very fundamental level I have accepted it and even feel it’s for the better. Why? You ask, because, my gene-pool is truly lacking. There are both physical and mental health issues in my family tree that should not be passed on to future generations. As the field of medicine becomes more and more sophisticated it has managed to keep my family alive with drugs, surgery, and various forms of mental health support. But the issue is: they have not fixed any of our problems they have just put “bandaids” on them and allowed us to pass them along to future unsuspecting generations. This will continue to be the issue until such time as real gene splicing/repair/therapy becomes a reality. So for now, I honestly feel that my family lineage should die off. It does make me sad, but I know in my heart of hearts it’s the right thing.

In a similar fashion, I created this thread to have a life of its own. I threw it out there and decided to let the community do as it saw fit with it. I knew if it took off, it would be a microcosm of society. There would be lurkers, occasional posters, good-for-nothings, active members, and those that chose to step up to leadership positions. In my book, all were not only welcome, but needed for a healthy vibrant community with a diversified gene-pool, so to speak. I myself have played various characters in the plot. There were times I posted several times a day, and weeks that have gone by without a peep from me. But during those quiet times when I had other issues to deal with, there was always fellow 150 Club members that were willing to step up to the plate and keep things going, and offer up great advice. And isn’t that what we’re all here for anyway, to offer or gain knowledge.

For as long as this thread remains healthy, its tentacles remain far-reaching. It’s hard to go on another site and not see someone referring to our club as the resource to check for unanswered issues. That in itself stands as tribute to each and every one of you that take the time to contribute to our discussions. I think it’s fair to say that we have inspired a whole new crop of indoor farmers, and likely more than almost any other thread on any site. And while our smaller grows may not make money for their owners, they have addressed the serious needs of many a medical patient. Since day-one all I’ve asked is that our conversation try to stay centric to the 150 and that members post lots of pictures and posts. To that end, all I can say is thank you. Thanks for the pic’s, thanks for the posts, thanks for the shared info, thanks for helping each other along, and thanks for making me a better grower!

So where is this going? Well it’s just a reminder that this thread is not mine, it’s ours. I have no claim to it and neither does anyone else. Remember, it can be gone in the blink of an eye. It happened to us before on OverGrow, and it can happen again. So while we are lucky enough to have it, please do not stifle anyone from posting or asking questions. Everything we read and see helps to make us better than we are now. If you feel that too much info is being presented, there are some nice “fluff threads” in the Toker’s Den you might want to check out.

In closing, I’ll leave you with one thought……. It’s the one now in your head, why not share it with someone and help them along one of life’s highways.

ONE LOVE, GROW SMART & GROW SAFE

Warm Regards, Pipedream

Hey everybody, I'm new around here. I just started my first grow in my stealthy gun cabinet - I have two 150 HPS flowering chambers each with a footprint of 17x20 & a height of 27". I intend to do single plant scrogs, although first I'm doing 4 plants sog style in each chamber to isolate the best genes. The veg side of the cabinet has two smaller chambers, one real short for seedlings, cuttings & hopefully a bonzai mom or two if I can make that work in the space, the other chamber is a touch shorter than the flowering side chambers leaving a bit of room for the tops to grow upward out of the screen if necessary. Here's a link to my grow diary, already on page 3 with no comments yet :(.

Pipedream, this thread is amazing! I intend to start at the beginning and read my way through all of it, although it'll probably take me a year to do so! I just need to keep a note of where I leave off.

Anyone know is SCROG would be good to use with my setup, btw my lights in veg chamber where replaced today with 2 150W energy saver light thingys lol, pushing about 5600 Lumes together

mayorofthdesert, when you post in a thread, you're "subscribed" and will receive updates on your New Threads List at the top of My IC page. Click the down arrow left of the thread title. It should take you to the first post you haven't read. It only works if you read posts in the order they're posted. With a thread this size, it can really come in handy.

Guys, I can't decide! :( I gotta choose between a 150w hps or 250w hps. My place is 60x60x180 (cm). Which should I choose? I wont have a cooltube.. and I'm planning on growing like 4 plants. No more, no less. Help is much appreciated! :)
