What's new

Cali vacation this coming year... what part? LA? Big Bear?

So help me out...

Me and a buddy are either flying out or taking a road trip to Cali sometime 2010. We're looking for a few things specifically:

- Younger social scene (18-26) (primarily 21+)
- Readily available bud (not required as we obviously know nobody)
- Possibly if in colder season, a lodge/ski resort

Now if we go during a warmer part of the year, any recommendations on where to go? I would love to soak up some cali buds on the beach, but at the same time wouldnt mind a nice ass ski resort out there such as the ones in big bear

- Any input?

Big bear is tight as hell. My girlfriends family used to own a cabin, and I se to go about 5x a season. It's cool to that they give free lift tickets to the military. Ther's some nice beaches in san Diego, it's just really crowded during the summer month's.

If you want to get off the beaten path a bit more than big bear you should check out Mammoth Lakes. The Mammoth Ski Resort is there, vegas is 5 hours away, reno 3, la 5, lake tahoe 4ish, the list can go on. It's kind of out in the middle of no where, but is one hell of a place. Plus you can fly in now from La, San Jose, Portland Or, Seattle Wa, and Reno Nv. I make multiple trips there a year and know the area rather well. If you have any questions feel free to ask, but check out this site too

Edit-If you go anytime after mid march chances are you'll be able to ski/snowboard in just a hoodie or t-shirt.

Unless your trying to do some major shopping or dispensinary browsing...really isnt much in LA besides touristy type stuff. even then, kinda whatever, maybe cuz i grew up there, but for a out of towner to CA, i would get more of an exp. going to central and northern CA, like from Santa Cruz to the Bay, and even in wine country...

GREAT outdoors activities and plenty of amazing quality dank at the drop of a dime...More diverse people/atmosphere than socal and not to mention some of the best weather in the state IMO...

if your comin to socal....start in san diego, only a few hours from big bear, you can hit both.....certain beaches are less crowded than others but lots to do...mammoth does rock too....plus tahoe isnt really that far...

Damn, so many ideas.

Well, if we had to go to 1 main location (with the 30 min/hr drive here and there), where would yall recommend for a warm retreat/cold retreat?

IE

Santa Cruz & BigBear

We're probably flying out so bringing weed won't be an option (only edibles before flight) - my next question is...the bud scene on the strict east coast is tough to get into...gotta know person after person...in most areas in CA, what's the normal 'thing' to get a decent deal? like certain areas to go to, certain spots,? dispensaries wont work for me, idont live in CA and i dont have a medical card

What is your interest in for the cold part of your vacation? If you want to ski/ride a giant park Big Bear would be a good place to go. If you want to do more freeriding/exploring Big Bear is not the place to go. It's super crowded on weekends like nothing you have ever seen on the east coast. While there are some incredible people that go to BB, there is a ridiculous percentage of dummies.

Mammoth has every type of terrain you could ask for, beginner to expert. Parks, pipes the whole nine yards. Tahoe also has lots of options that are similar and good mj.

Also finding what you want as far as warm/cold will widely depend on what time of year you go. From what you've said so far it seems to me spring would be your best bet. There still is snow and things are starting to warm up a bit.

Well thats why we were deciding...if its a colder retreat, go march/april (prob april)...warmer, shoot for later... but as far as right now goes, probably April.

Mainly we just wanna hang out, explore new shit, maybe meet some girls, etc. Where ever this can be had (for 2 out of towners), that's where we're headed..lol...

Activities...

Do you ski or snowboard? Ability level?

Havent did either in years. But, last time i tried skiing was easy for me...couldnt get snowboarding down...willing to learn, but id rather make that an "Activity" rather than the main reason i go to cali ya know

I don't know Big Bear super well, but I'm not sure how much there is to do there other then ski/board that time of the year. If you want multiple activities I would look more at Tahoe, Mammoth. That's if you want make sure you spend time on the snow. If you really don't care too much about the snow then your options are nearly endless.

Favorite places in california....

san diego, bay area, LA's alright to visit... fuck living there, mammoth ( ski resort/mountain town), SANTA CRUZ, HUMBOLDT County ( arcata... not eureka)

you should visit mammoth and santa cruz... it's alot closer than santa cruz and big bear. Big bear isn't going to have overwhelming amounts of bud like santa cruz does. Santa cruz also has very beautiful woman!!!!

For the beach scene: San Diego- Pacific Beach or Mission Beach has great nightlife/beach vibe ie tons of beautiful ladies. Ocean Beach has more of a hippy vibe which can be very cool if that is your thing.

For the winter scene: Forget Big Bear!, head to Mammoth or Tahoe. Squaw or Heavenly are the huge resorts with gambling nearby and lots of partying to be had.

Also worth mentioning is San Fran, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Big Sur, Santa Barbara (expensive), The entire N. Coast above San Fran, Yosemite (for the scenery not the party), Newport Beach, ect...

go to mexico you would have way more fun=cabo or cancun
most of cali is pretty boring unless your just doing tourist crap(yosemite is a must see)
santa cruz is boring(i live near there) and weed is not readily available unless you are prop 215
socal is just a mess unless you wanna see disneyland or hang on the beach
