What's new

which size bucket will yield the most?

im using a new 1000 watt hps for flower with 11 plants in week 4 there looking great ive use 400 watt for a long time so the difference is nice to see..

im just wondering if you guys have any thoughts on bucket size im using just 1 gallon now which is nice, easy to move around but id like for more yield should i do 5 gallon buckets, maybe put 2 plants in a gallon..?

5 gal pots

5 gal pots

I grow with a 1k HPS and am loving it. 1 gal is to small IMHO. Generally I use 5 gal buckets, harder to move but the babies love the extra room. :2cents: :joint:

Bretonston - 14 is the best config in 5g's bush-style under a 1k with Hortilux (yeah I know, but side by side they kick ass growing purps). I'm sure you could figure out the config.,but 3 per row on the sides and 4 per row in the mid.

B,
Just in case you don't know this. It's always best to up-pot several times. You don't want tiny plants in a large pot. Bad for roots...they never dry out. Transplant up in increments. Plants prefer that...

how would a 3 gallon bucket do in comparisson to a 5 gallon as far as root zone space? im interested in this myself because I had planned on using 3 gallon grow bags, but may change my mind and go with 5 gallon buckets...

What I've heard is that you should have one gallon for every foot of height. It is possible to grow tall plants in small pots but as they mature...you're watering and feeding all the time (daily) and they're at greater risk of a deficiency.

As I wrote that...I realized that I didn't know what medium you were talking about. I just assumed soil. BUT with coco grows you can get by with much smaller pots...especially if you're using an automated drip system.
