I do too,but unfortunatly we had a 3hr power outage and it caused too much stress and they developed some fungal infection kinda like rotting flesh,so my cleaner shrimp decided to snack on there tail and that was the begening of the end for them.
I'm only gonna do sps for now on,well a few inverts.
Do you have pictures of your set up?is it fish only, reef or a mix(light coral load)

nice tank....i had a 55 gal bow front with about 100lbs of live rock... MHs skimmers fluval 404.... it rocked.... the only fish in their were some true percula clowns, and a gobie... i had a rose anemone the size of a dinner plate, some bubble coral, colt corals..... snails hermit crabs... some fire shrimp and a nudabrank( spelling)anyways.. i broke the tank down when i started to grow.... well know i wanna start it up again, maybe with just some liverock, some caulerpa, and some sea horses.... i had a seahorse before but i couldn't get it to eat anything, i was told that i had to much current in my tank... does that sound right? do you have any advice on getting the horses to eat?

nothing like getting baked and looking at the tank huh.... ill try to dig up some pics of my old set up

My best advice that i can give you is read, read and read before you even buy a tank. They are expensive and do need lots of attention, they are not plug and play like freshwater systems.Take it from experiance, when i first set up my first tank, within a year i lost over 1000.00$ in fish, corals and sea anemonees. What i mean is it take time.

There are alot of saltwater/reef forums out there, they are a good place to edducate your self.

Sweet Pics!
I have 120g total volume. Just broke the 65 down to redo the floors and wound up downsizing to a 40 breeder. Mostly LPS/SPS, polyps, 2 clams, and 4 fish. I have about 80# of live rock, most of it in a big poly barrel that doubles as my sump. Must have for a reef system, IME, is a really good protien skimmer, a quality light (IMO, halide or T5), ro/di water, auto topoff and auto dosing reef systems are pretty easy. Fish only systems are even easier and much cheaper.
Here's some of mine...

I definetly agree with frenchmen about finding a local or national reef forum, awesome info and cool people. Finding good books can be hard too, there's a ton of junky and outdated info out there. For authors I like Calfo, Sprung, Delbeek and Borneman. Husbandry is a must but I found it than easier than freshwater.

I love the hobby and find there's alot of common ground between horticulure and aquaculture.

Sweet pictures,I've just upgraded my lighting system,4x24" t-5Ho on top of a 26gallon tank and will go with only sps, shrimps green chromis(just for movement)blennie scooter and thats about it,i will not be running a skimmer so i wanna keep the bio-load as light as possible.
Reef tanks are a good way to space out after enjoying a nice fat ...well you know:joint:

very nice guys I have been doing this most my life if you have any questions would be glad to try to answer. I work professionally in this field currently (have for over 15 years). Is a very interesting career learn something new everyday. Totally agree on Sprung and Delbeek as far as authors. Julian is my favorite.

Awesome! Mine is fresh water. Was looking for my thread. When I woke up an Angel Fish was on top of the plants and mostly above water. I thought she was doomed. The first time I tapped the tank nothing. The 2nd time it jumped back into the tank. Was sluggish for a while. Now fine. I hink she was working on her tan.

Man you guys are making me jealous. I had a 125 gal reef going but its down and replaced with a 20 gal planted freshwater tank. Now I am totally anxious to start up a new reef but I know that won't happen for a few years at least

Its a 135 with 55 sump, 3x250 lumatek mh, octo pro 250 skimmer, all the goodies that make a fish geek.

yeah i know i got hair algae. the MB7 and vodka are helping with that.

Reef tanks arent too different than weed, they really share a lot of the same thoughts and ideas.

beautiful aquariums! I wish I had a saltwater one. All I have is a small 10 gallon with some platties and guppies. One day I hope to have one as nice as all of you! Beautiful!!!

Nice looking duncan polyps and some nice sps in there nice reef Rysam

Thanks! 90% OF THE STUFF IN THERE IS FROM FRAG SWAPS. (aw shit) I try to go to all of them from the bay area to chico. Im hooked fo sho!!
I can talk reefs all day.

To anyone that wants a salty tank: ITS NOT HARD, just spendy. and joining your local fish club can get you great equipment and corals at a fraction of retail. I never ask more than 10 bucks for frags of anything in my tank. most of it I just give away.
