If worms are anything like snakes then I'm a retarded beaver.

If you go fishing take your worms back to the city they kill forests.

Worms are not native to most of north america. They're an invasive species that is completely changing ecosystems as they creep into them.

oh man that's messed up i never thought of that. Yeah i mean night crawlers must be from Vietnam or something and we're introducing it over and over in the US every time we fish and let the worms go

the 'american earthworm' is beneficial to forest environs, here in MN
we have too many 'european earthworms' that don't leave behind the
same amount of undecayed leaf matter, here's what Wiki says:

A total of approximately 182 earthworm taxa in 12 families are reported from America north of Mexico, i.e., USA & Canada, of which 60 (ca. 33%) are exotic/introduced. Only two genera of Lumbricid earthworms are indigenous to North America while introduced genera have spread to areas where earthworms did not formerly exist, especially in the north where forest development relies on a large amount of undecayed leaf matter. When worms decompose that leaf layer, the ecology may shift making the habitat unsurvivable for certain species of trees, ferns and wildflowers.

We're losing out forests here in northern MN very slowly to this very issue, I've known about this scenario since moving here in '88 and reading up on the impact of foreign species to our environment.

Next spring when your yard is over-saturated with rain, stomp your foot on the grass and you'll hear thousands of worms squirm away in panic. The sound they make as a collective is really impressive.

One of the native species of worms to north america is a big fat white lump that smells of lilies.

I used to go worming kinda like that with a pitchfork. Late at night after a rain, just go out there wiggling that pitchfork in the ground and they would come right up. Never knew worms could collectively scream like that until then...
