Cannabis is getting taxed. Deal with it.

people that dont pay taxes arent pulling their weight in this country! think about it, all the freedoms you take advantage of arent free. give a little and you can take ALOT. why would anyone care where there money is going, you know if legalization happens the price will drop alot and you will still be paying less than you are now!
profits? theres PLENTY to be had.
farmers have grown plants for a long time and been taxed on it just like everyone else.
a world of no taxes is a fantasy world, its a ridiculous dream.

get over it, pay your taxes, and stop being greedy!

you are spot WRONG

this is an argument about SALES not INCOME tax

right now pot is illegal so its safe to assume no one declares pot income

one its legal to sell income made will be taxed at approx 30%

sales tax is a state use tax

so you propose pot buyers pay sales tax

ok fine

let me ask you if we have to pull our weight why is it ok

FOR BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF TAXABLE GOODS TO BE SOLD TAX FREE OVER THE INTERNET ???

see your blanket tax model, would be acceptable if it wasn't biased against pot users

but once again

this is about us paying way too much for government to do way to little

and for the tax revenue states propose on taxing out of the profits the market has to double in size to break even

prescription meds are not taxed in 49 states

for your reference

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States

prescription drugs buddy.

If it becomes legal and available to the public, AS IT SHOULD, it will be classified as an OTC drug. Try again.

Unless of course you intend to have it continue to be restricted via prescription only?

Also, for your information, Marijuana is NOT currently legal on the federal level for medicinal use, and even within MMJ states, no doctor has ever written a bona fide prescription for Marijuana. This causes it to fall outside of many cities/states prescription exemption guidelines, making it CURRENTLY taxable.

I won't be complaining about a sales tax lest the tax board get pissed and begin treating it like cigarettes, with the same applicable percentage taxation.

Keep complaining.

Is medical cannabis our goal.

Is medical cannabis our goal.

Medical use of cannabis is just a foot in the door for the normalization of cannabis. The first step. We need to look past med use and legalize the use by every adult in the country. The only way to do this is to bring cannabis into the mainstream of the country. Med use is doing that but cant do it on its own. Money talks loudest to politicians and the mainstream. You have a guy in the furniture buisness that pays taxes every year. He sees a guy in the cannabis buisnes that pays no taxes. Is he going to smile and say go for it. No he is pissed and screaming bloody murder. The income that towns and citys will lose from not taking your lifes belongings after you are prosicuted for distribution or manufacturing of cannabis is enormous. We have to replace those funds with taxes or fees if we ever want to set cannabis users free from our governments. Medical use laws are nice but hundreds of thousands of non med users are still paying the bills with the loss of personal possesions, fines and freedom. We still have to work to set them free. Cannabis money will do that.

You're like embarrassing (and unfortunately loud) family members that we will never be able to get rid of.

You freakos are IMO, one of the reasons why this drug is still illegal. Because when weirdos have an opinion about something, it's the natural reaction of normal people to either ignore what they are saying or to become an opponent there of.

had to quote this to get it on the second page

really... they don't tax home brewed beer which YOU can make... i can't make moonshine, they gonna say i can only grow schwag at home? the good stuff is only for the companies to make... sorry bro but FUCK THAT... maybe if i wanted to sell my meds then sure, tax me, but i don't think one should be taxed to grow their own... they don't tax farmers at farmers markets, should they start taxing anyone who grows a plant or maybe just the larger corporations like they do now?

all them anti-taxation radicals can just sell their herbs under the table; legalization is not going to stop that

LOL. You don't get taxed if you aren't selling. Why would you only be able to grow shwag at home?

People make their own wine and beer at home. They dont pay extra taxes, do they?

Personal growers are exempt from the tax...only if you sell it you have to pay--
(I don't really agree with the tax...just thought I would point that out--)

All of you anti taxation radicals starting threads in this forum. You are under serious illusions to think cannabis won't be taxed like alcohol or cigarettes.

Honestly, you guys are a bunch of a weirdos. You're like embarrassing (and unfortunately loud) family members that we will never be able to get rid of.

Ok lets all chill out and think a little. Basically Silver Bullet is right. MJ will be taxed and if your not toooo stoned you will realize that we want it to be taxed. That is the only path to legalization. We want legalization!! One post said that the Oakland dispensaries pay a $30,000.00 permit fee and that is supposed to sound like a lot of money? By whose measure? Mr. Lee that runs the Skyblue cafe has stated on a TV interview for CNBC that he paid about 300,000.00 in state taxes last year and almost $600,000.00 in federal taxes. That is almost $900,000.00 in taxes. That means he made between 1 and 2 million dollars. He wants nothing more than Tax on MJ because he knows that will lead to legalization and a lot more income for him. This is how it works boys so get with it or get out of the way!

a) its not be made legal in any model that resembles over the counter

you need doctors approval. this is the current model that has been legalized.

This is the first step everyone is saying is so crucial , this is the proverbial foot in the door, the one the pro tax side claims we cannot pass up or we will lose our opportunity to get it legalized at ll

No shit sherlock, thats whys its a thread about state sales tax i dont know what your point is but you sure went outta your way to make it

This causes it to fall outside of many cities/states prescription exemption guidelines, making it CURRENTLY taxable.

well since i doubt they will be selling weed over the counter to minors it dont think it falls into that category

so what taxable catagegory does it fall in by default?

please show me what legislature dictates default use tax basis for newly legalized items

furthermore answer why is it ok for budget issues to be resolved with increased sales tax revenues (burden on the taxpayer) in an economic downturn instead of a reduction in government spending (burden on the government

teh california government is in shambles for what reason?

because its not collecting tax on pot?

you may be unaware but paying budget deficits with non related tax bases is considered irresponsible accounting and it gets reported in audits

a county in new york had one of the highest ratings is now in junk bond status for the same thing

so you know what
YOU prostitute your right to being governed with integrity for a little instant satisfaction

YOU sell out your right to responsible government at the same time

but dont try to convince us its our duty is to stfu and do whatever it is that the government wants because your too apathetic to try and exercise your right to hold your government accountable for its actions like they do yours

Legal means it will be sold everywhere, corner stores, grocery stores, anywhere you can buy the normal vices

Medical, means it is used mainly as a medicine, controlled and supposed to be prescribed.

So I think the majority of the people that post in threads of thi snature need to understand this.

If you want it legalized, you will see a influx of large corps into right away, prepackaged, rolled, and sold in stores, just like smokes, will this be taxed? God, I hope so. why let the corps make all those billions and not pay anything, sure we pay in the end, but that is what legalization will bring. I do not think it will make stuff much cheaper, why would that be, when people are willing to pay 400 an O why would anyone charge less
