SOG supercroppin

is it possible to supercrop a sea of green, or is it counter productive due to single colas?

side note, what techniques do you y'all use when SOG'ing? trimming bottom nodes(how many)? when to trim, ect.

With a SOG, you'll want to flower early and leave them be. Maybe tuck a fan leaf or two. Shouldn't be any need to do any trimming. Good luck.

I don't run sog but if I did I would trim most fans after about 20-25 days of flower and then again after 40-45 days of flower. That way your buds are getting the most light that they can get.

I'd rather my fan leaves get mass amounts of light than my buds...

I'm currently growing a couple plants in half gallon vinegar bottles and most of the fan leaves fell off due to them getting root-bound, at least that's what I think did it lol, but anyway, since the leaves fell off the buds are still growing and are getting bigger everyday now so maybe the buds can use the light as well?

it's up for debate as to whether the buds produces significant photosynthesis...

the only reason I trim fan leaves is if they are not getting direct light....I don't want them sucking energy from bud production.

I don't however trim my lower buds because I don't like to waste potentially good smoke.

so shade leaves, trim. shade nugs, no trim.

sog is so simple because you don't need to do any real trimming, training, etc....just flip the switch, feed em, sharpen your blades around 60 days in and get to harvesting (depending on flower time obv)

It all depends on the strain, anything with strong indica or northern lights heritage for example, tends to grow into a single cola naturally. When trying to SOG a Sour Diesel though, a good bit of pruning and canopy management would be needed and a lot more work. Strain selection is very important to a SOG grow.

what potent strain would you recommend for SOG?

Well, of the few THC of strains I can recall, Serious Seed's AK-47 was 23-24%, pretty damned high. Grown well it is a good 1-2 hit herb, and yields pretty well too, though it didn't stretch hardly at all in flower so make sure it's close to the height you want before you flip em. There's lots of crosses of it, I'm just finishing an Ak-47 X Grandaddy Purple cross that has some serious frost (and purpling) that looks like it will be dynamite. I'll know in a week or two.

Kushes have a goodly amount of sativa in them, so frankly, no. They also are renowned for being fairly poor yielders overall, thats why its often crossed with something else, to boost the yields.

If you want to train them into budsickles it could work but it would be generally more work than just running with an indica style growth structure.

Im growing out some speed queen to try in my sog, think it should be a good plant, mostly indica, but still has some stretch to it.
