Where a suit and say yes sir, no sir, thank you sir. If you are going to fight authority, use your head. Pissing off judges and DA's does you no service and just makes you look like a moron frankly. Respect your adversary....

"Your Honor" for the judge.

I saw some old coote get thrown out of a court room and threatend with contempt for reading a news paper.a few minuts later a guy on trafic violation got weekend detention for 3 months for pulling out his wallet and saying into it "Beam me up Scotty" them judges have no sense of humor!

I feel this delt with a few judges. Honestly I dont even feel the position and power of a judge is free in any way. Judge what with manditory minimums and red tape rules come on. Dont get me wrong when i go to court the judge is god but it aint right. It dont even matter thats how it is and what we have to deal with for now. Contempt laws are way to undiscriptive.

...reading some of your guys responses makes me tell ya all you should be glad you live in a country which actually has a court.

Getting PO about having to spit out a gum is the last problem to be worried about!

As I wrote before get over it and move on!

I know a girl that lost her job arguing with management. She decided to show her ass and threatened to assault the manager. She was banned from the business altogether. A few months later she got a job with the same company in a different town. Two weeks later she lost the job because there was a "no hire" status on her file.

She's 47 years old.:biglaugh:

Poor girl will never learn that dumb pride and poor judgment keep her down more than the law.

Just have some manners and respect.

It has nothing to do with laws.

sorry but respect is a two way street.
they dont respect me, i dont respect them.

if there ever is a next time, i'll gaslight them. i'll act like im chewing gum so when the pig comes over i'll say, im not chewing any gum and show him im not.
then he can feel stupid. i just have an infected tooth officer.

that way they cant get me for contempt, but it will certanly annoy them.

or maybe ill have turetts syndrome that day...FUCKING COCK! ..

The judges may be in the wrong...but, they can be in the wrong for a long time.

OP brings up a good point. Obviously you want to kiss a judges ass if you care about your case, but what are the limits to being held in contempt? It seems in the US a judge has to power to consider anything in contempt, including free speech, and is a curious temporary suspension of your rights, for the US.

Consider this - telling a cop to go fuck themselves, or giving them the finger, might be a bad idea - but it's not illegal, and in fact, many people are hitting big paydays for lawsuits after being arrested for such behavior.

im pissed,
i went to court to contest a ticket and i was sitting in the benches with everyone else.
i happened to be chewing gum. not smacking or anything, hell it was only a piece of trident!

so anyway, the cop that stands by the judge walks over to me with a little trash can and says, spit out your gum.

so i did. and then he went around the room making other "violators" spit out their gum too.

looking back on this, i should of said, what law am i in violation of?

i mean cops can only enforce the laws that are on the books, right?
so which gum chewing law was i in violation of?

im thinking about getting another ticket and going back to court chewing gum just so i can confront that fat oinker.

Every Court I have ever seen has signs that say, "No food or Drinks"
Chewing gum is eating-- You would lose your argument in a hot second--

It's a piece of gum. Get over it, move on. That little room is the judge's universe. You're playing with fire if you are trying to prove a point in there over chewing gum.

River Rat: These judges do not have to pass a law. You don't understand. The law supports the judges already. The Judges are allowed to do whatever they want in their own courtrooms. If you disagree, chew your tongue, whatever you do, they can throw you in jail for contempt of court.

Contempt of court is YOU and your contempt of that court.

I went to court over a $1 parking ticket I forgot to pay, the judge allowed me to wait and wait, when it was my turn to go in front of her, she asked why I was wearing shorts in her courtroom.

Now I was wearing very long knee length nice blue jean shorts with a shirt, it was August. Judge allowed women to wear blue jeans, blue jean skirts were OK too.

But when I go in front of her in blue jean shorts, socks, reeboks, Judge told me to go home and come back with pants on.

I had to go next door to the Dollar Store and get a pair of jeans, went back to the court house and put them on.

The jeans were not the right size, they were WAY too big. I had to hold them up with one hand.

When I went back in front of Judge, she sez " Are you trying to be cute?"

I told her the jeans were marked right size, but obviously they were not right size, sorry Judge sez I.

I paid for parking ticket and left.

Next Halloween I see the same Judge sitting on the bench dressed as a Halloween Witch with a pointy hat, and black cape and all that jazz.

So I guess I could go in front of the Judge in a witch outfit, but not a pair of shorts that went down to my knees. Hiking shorts.

Contempt of court can be anything, even chewing your tongue after you have been told to stop.

river rat, r u by any chance the girl in the willy wonka movie that was chewing the same piece of gum for a world record and this broke off your chances to do it?

was it a magical piece of gum?

I don't get it...

there is a time and a place for everything, you cannot act in a court house or someone else house for that matter, as if it were your living room, and even in one's living room one should live with respect and decorum, like S4L said, decorum is a fancy word, I like it hehehe...

i know, but what legal ground would he have to stand on?

what could he possibly charge you with?

it would be an easy lawsuit.

i could sue his ass off.

don't know where you live but in most states you can't sue judges for their actions in a courtroom, its a law. you could file a complaint with the review board but in 99% of the time they side with the judge and if they rule against him/her it's a slap on the wrist.

It would be contempt of court. I'm not saying its right but its just the way it is. I've heard of judges having people removed from court for being dressed inappropriately.

been there, done that, got the tshirt (and also the shorts and sandals)

it's florida for chrissake, I'm supposed to wear a suit to appear over a speeding ticket??
