87 cubic feet and 400W MH/HPS. I tried putting MH + HPS together earlier but heat shot up to 33C (91F)

(pic looks weird because it's HDR)

Hope ya have a fire extinguisher near by. That hack job just looks like an accident waiting to happen. I would be far more concerned about cleaning up the electrical right now before you get in too deep.

werd. you're playing with fire, quite literally.

What's your plan when the weight of that wire pulls loose your electrical tape connections and the hot line flops right into that puddle of water while you're standing there as a ground path?

you are planning to run the whole room? and it is 10x9ish?

your pic isnt showing much...

are you starting with those 3 babies?

for the space a can fan max 8 or 10 is more than enough i think (one intake one outlet)

wattage for that space is obviously another issue and you dont have close to enough

bit of a firehazard, but so was my first, i was confident enough in my skill of bodging to make sure everything was safe while notlooking it.

my house still stands, and the only thing thats ever made a smoke smell in my room, was a old LCD pc screen i had.

try and get your shit together with it, i did and ive felt safer since.

The HPS isn't normally on, it was just one for testing, and there's usually no standing water. They're hempy cups, watered right before I took the pic. I didn't know water flowed out of the hole so easily.

The wiring is a joke, will fix it up when the fan and vent stuff come in. Currently going with 150 CFM .. what do you guys think? Good enough for 2 400 W in a 80 ft3 closet?

again the lighting is less than sufficient unless you are making a false wall with polly and are using the rest of the room to vent to?

you need at least 2000 watts (thats too little really) for that size room.

edit: maybe i am missing something or your measuring is off lol
an 80 square foot closet?

I dont think that is nearly enough to keep those lights cool!

I run a cooltubed single 400 hps in a 2x2x4 with a 265 pulling through the tube and pushing into a scrubber.

I have always used and been taught that .3 CFM per watt is the best number to use when ONLY cooloing bulbs.

So I would think atleast 200 cfm for strickly cooling the bulbs

That scares me, for your wiring you should at least wire nut the wires together instead of taping them

Have you considered hanging your lights vertically with a cheap $ store fan directly underneath each lamp blowing straight up and carbon filter/inline fan at very top of cab?

The money saved on buying 2 reflectors or cool tubes will pay for the fan & filter. Reflectors trap a lot of heat. Vert lamp is much easier to cool. It will also out yield horizontal lamps if plants are positioned to take advantage of vert lamps maximum potential, in my experience

Plantlightinghdyroponics.com has a $70 Valueline 4" fan (171 cfm) and $85 Carbonaire filter (16# charcoal)= $155 + shipping.

They also have an $80 Valueline 6" fan (435 cfm) and matching $110 Carbonaire filter (40# charcoal)= $190.

(2 1/2 times the charcoal and 2 1/2 the cfm for extra $35 more than the 4" combo. I also bought the Hydrofarm variable speed fan control (plug & play) for $20.)

I cool an 80 cu ft flower cab (250 HPS + 250 MH) vert lamps/vert scrog, plus 24 cu ft veg cab (210 watts shop lights & cfl) with the fan throttled way down. I like having the reserve capacity and speed control with the larger setup.

Be Happy/ grow Safely!

Thanks judas. Got any pics or diagrams of your setup? I thought about hanging the lights vertically bare between plants, but here are some issues..

1) I'm not growing many plants, max I'd like to have flowering is 3, with 1-2 mothers in another room.

2) I haven't decided between hempy/dwc/aero/ebb&flow. I have the parts to make any of these right now but I can't decide between aero and ebb/flow - dwc is out of the question because the temps of the res will be too warm. 1-2 plants will be done hempy w/ coco.

3) No matter what method is used, the grow will be scrog, and for this reason I initially wanted to hang the lights vertically with all the lumens going down across the scrog net (reflector, reflective sides of wall etc)

4) I don't necessarily NEED to run 2x 400W in the closet. It would be nice but if it's too much of a hassle I can just go w/ a single HPS for flowering, and a single MH for veg.

5) I'm not sure whether I should use a cooltube or not, that's why the setup looks so temporary.

Supposedly they cut 1/3 of the lumens reaching the plant, and I would need to create a makeshift reflector which will further cut most of the lumens compared to using a standard horizontal bare lamp and reflector.

Maybe just a fan blowing between the lamp and the plant tops (scrog net) is enough?

Do you have your scrog setup vertically or like a half-pipe, or .. ?
