First Hydro Grow Ever

well, its been a week and these girls are getting big. not seeing any pre-flowers yet though? how long does that typically take?

Hi Joe,
Pre-flowers actually can occur in vegging plants. I personally don't rely on them. Once I see multiple stamen in clusters or pistils sticking out the top...then I'll call them.

Should be any day now...

thanks once again, kind sir. i think im just paranoid b/c of the pin hole sized holes in the tent that i recently posted about. im gonna clean and change the tray and res on monday though. when i do that, i will lock myself in and duct tape these potential leaks. the tent is in a room with all the blinds closed, but there is still light in the room.

thanks for stopping in, kanye (never thought I'd type anything like that before)! They are under a 400w hps, but I had turn the light off and back on to take a decent picture from my phone. I did just post earlier today too, that I wished I had opted for the 600 or 1000w. Just thought for such a small tent it would be enough. Oh well, live and learn.

joe i grow with 2 X 400w hps one per square meter and i get great yields ... try using more reflective materials to gain more light coverage i dont but it might help you? ........heres some rep for using hydro and not dirt :)

thanks rocket! the tent i use (growlab) has highly reflective material inside.

also, (mainly for my records, but have a question about health too), i cleaned out my res and tray yesterday and added 3/4 strength bloom and micro nutrients (10/5 tbl spoons). the bottom leaves on most of the plants are turning yellow and brown and kind of shriveling up...nitrogen deficiency?

sorry for the delay. things are going okay, maybe. after watering for almost 24 hours on accident a week or so ago, i've experienced a LOT of yellowing/wilting/dying leaves yet a lot of frost bud production on the top? ph is right below 6 and should have the right amount of nutrients.

i was feeding/watering once per day before the over-watering incident. i didn't water for 24 hours and noticed continued deterioration, mainly of the bottom leaves, but working their way up the plant. please note the orange hue from the lights...here are some pictures:

Hi Guys,
Rocket High, I'd sure say your plant recovered nicely. It's looking great.

CJ...man I wish I had some specific advice to give you. My guess is that it will just take some time to recover. You might want to add a root rot treatment regimen just in case. If there are some roots that died off, that will help...and if not, it won't hurt anything. People use 35% H202 but I'm not at all familiar with any of the commercial products. (One advantage of hydroton in E&F is that root problems are rare so I've never had to deal with it.)

If you use peroxide...research the dosage carefully since it's potent stuff and too much can burn roots.

Good luck,
ET

thanks et. i think it was a combination of that over-watering incident and then an overall lack of watering as i continued to only water once per day for 15 minutes. the roots are green, not brown, which i assume means no root rot?

also, today, 31st day of flower, i emptied the res and scrubbed it out, although without soap or anything. there was some algae in there though. per the instructions of the nutes from the local hydro, i gave it full strength bloom nutes and 1/2 strength micro nutes. hopefully with the cooler temps recently and upped watering schedule (2x's per day now), i get this shit figured out.

Mornin' CJ,
Roots are generally white...though they can take on a tint from certain nutrients being used. Dirt growers who use worm casting teas often have tan roots. But green roots sound odd. Do they smell good? A foul smell is a sure indication of root rot...along with mushy discolored roots (brown to black).

Anyway...glad you're still hanging in there. Take care dude...
