New First Timer - Opinions/Advice Welcome

Hey All,

Like the title said, this is the first time I've tried this 'seriously'. Here are the specs and what I have obtained and what I'm thinking of obtaining. Any advice would be great! Pic is attached.

THANK YOU

Demensions:

H - 6ft 3in

W - 2ft

D - 2ft 8in

Not painted yet but I am planning on painting it flat white latex rather than hanging up mylar.

I purchased the following (in no particular order):

Honeywell TM005X Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermohygrometer
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EX83RU/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

4IN VORTEX INLINE FAN 172 CFM
http://www.horticulturesource.com/product_info.php?products_id=1578

And I am thinking of purchasing...

Sun System 2- 250w HPS-High Pressure Sodium Enclosed Ballast Mini System
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...w?ie=UTF8&qid=1252627145&sr=8-2&condition=new

My main concern right now is whether or not the 250w HPS will be enough. Should I go to a 400w or would that be overkill? Also, some basic ideas of the logistics of putting it all together woud be awesome.

My plan is to have the intake vent (which will be a 4 inch circle at the back/side/bottom of the box) be passive (no fan to suck in air). I figure having that Vortex would be enough. CORRECT ME IF I A WRONG. And then to have the outtake hole drilled in to the top ceiling (4 inches diameter) with a laundry venting hose connected to the Vortex.

Another concern. FILTERING. I saw a DIY on a filter but..... :joint: ya know... Lazy... So what would one suggest to purchase (not too much money please). Like no more than $100.00.

Thanks again!!!

I followed the DIY link o rama for my filter.....It was like 30 cnd to buy the supplies....all of them were availible at Rona cept the clamps(farm supplies outlet) and carbon(pet store)....but im thinking building one yourself would be the cheapest way......would have been over 50 to order online and get it shipped.....

First thing to do is to go to the norml site and check your state laws if you are in the states, so you understand the risk. Once you accept that, you can go forward, good luck.

Id have a seperate out take at the top filtering out some were else other wise you just be moving warm air around ur grow space also a 400w would be more effeciant than two 250w for space and would be more cost effective also spend what u can afford at the time after a year a so ull have pretty much everything u need

A 250 is good but the reflector is not. You want a ballast outside the cab and the reflector blocks as much as 25% of the grow from the lamp (that area under the enclosed ballast) Very bad choice.

Intake area is double the exhaust. You want three 4" holes, one exhaust, two intakes.

Thanks for the information. What brand/model reflector would you suggest? Possible link please?

Thanks again!

It will be sorta tough to fit a Hydrofarm/SunSys air-cooled hood in there, because it looks like you would run into issues with the ducting. (Not enough side clearance to allow length for light height adjustment. Check how long a cooltube hood w/reflector is, and see how much clearance you have left (if any)
