Water Quality question

I am gonna be using an ebb & gro with either hygroton or STG. Not sure yet about nutes or strains. I do not have a ph/ppm tester yet but I plan on obtaining one.

My question is my water is suitable to use in this hydro setup or will I need to use bought water...the only thing I have is a kitchen faucet britta atm...theres no hook up where the purified water comes out :( and filters are pricey so if my water will work id rather run a hose from my faucet.

I live 5 blocks away from a lake. I have well water. The hot water goes thru a bioler system and supplies hot for shower and baseboard heat thru pipes. my water has a faint smell of eggs when I rinse out my mouth in the bathroom sink(unfiltered there). visible signs of rust(discolerment) in white shower over a weeks or so time

Cheap water test strip absopure sent me tested as Hard Water

Heres a water test done three years ago. no violations in 2006 when tested.
Regulated
Flouride ppm 0.4
Nitrate ppm ND

Unregulated
Sodium ppm 16
Sulfate ppm 8
Calcium ppm 18
Iron ppm 0.2
Magnesium ppm 24

Collected in Distribution System
Lead ppb 51 collected 6/06 and ppb 4 on 12/06
Copper ppb 0.33 collected 6/06 and ppb .053 on 12/06

If my water is usable what kind of modifications will I need to make with nutes?

Thanks in advance for any help here! :canabis:

Hello,
Stay Away From Brita Its A Killer. I Know From Experience! Does Not Remove Salts, Fluoride, & More. 1 Filter Only Does 40 Gals. Max.

Yeah I was thinking the brita was no good...not only that it is really unconvenient with no way to run a hose or line from it.....

Not sure if I can use this water or need purification...cant mod too much cause I live in a apt...

Well, there's some lead in it. Don't know if I'd let kids drink it:
Federal standards limit the amount of lead in water fifty (50) parts per billion (ppb). In light of new health and exposure data, EPA has proposed tightening this standard to twenty (20) ppb.

Thing is, lead's usually from the solder in copper pipes, and and your copper's negligible. Just funny how there's some lead (don't worry, you're not gonna glow in the dark) but no copper. Usually get both from the pipes, unless they're the old lead pipes.

The egg smell's generally sulphur, no problem.
The rust stains generally indicate iron. no problem. Might mess with the wife's hair color (turns blondes brassy) if her color's not natural.

Got calcium and magnesium, good, good...you need those, but I don't know the concentration cannabis needs. Sorry.

If that's everything that's in your water, it's actually quite soft. Should be okay (quite good, actually) although you might check it for bacteria.

Speaking of bacteria, your Brita filter is probably loaded with 'em.

Talk to your hydro shop person. I have been using hard water formula nutrients (Ionic) for a long time, and have good results. Other brands also make formulas that work well in harder water.
.
I thought the swing in lead readings was very interesting. It went from 51 ppb to 6 ppb ? Huh? 800% change. That's a a hard one to explain. Maybe call the water test outfit and ask why that might be.

Yeah. I thought the same thing...something is fishy about that
