hey green , I spend a lot of time out your way I am in the praries, I tried to get a hold of red from legends to pick up some high end . Ihave growin some of their joint project gens. I am licenced to grow and this looks like a good contender but all emails were undeliveriable ,do you know whats up with red or do you go through some were else. I know vsb doesnt have any talked to cookie and he diddnt know either.I was given a couple renexblueberry when I was out there but want the rene not the crosses.
send me a pm if you know whats up

You're confusing me with another chap with green in the name.

CnB clones don't get tired...they're exact genetic replicas. Sam the Skunkman has maintained clones for decades and seen no decrease in vigor. They can catch a virus but that's not too likely. And I haven't seen any pictures of rene recently so I can't use that as evidence of a loss of vigor.

Not to worry, Rene is still growing strong on the Island. The 'tired' comment cracks me up as well. I got a rene cut about 8 years ago, before she developed a reputation for her, around the time same time Red and the Legends folks got her. I remember going to the Cup not long after I got her and Red, Bubbleman and myself had a good laugh at how 3 guys from BC who had never met wound up at the cup and we were all raving about this strain we had back home. Never seen either of those fine gents on this side of the pond but through the simple process of starting new moms every year or so, Rene is still growing exactly the same way with my friends and I the way she was when we first got her. The pics in my profile haven't been updated in a long time but not one thing has changed!

There is such a thing as clonal or genetic drift with plants. Eventually the strain does get "tired". This depends on the environmental conditions and the number of replications.

Wrong, genetic drift happens in reproducing populations not in clones which are the exact genetic replica. Take only healthy cuttings off healthy plants and you'll have no problem maintaining clones for decades.

I smoked some Rene in Vancouver back in 03.. It was gifted to me from the guys that used to own smoke n seeds. It was THE most amazing smoke I have had to date. So smooth, mellow, clear headed high. It was AWESOME! I have been trying to get my hands on it ever since, I have had no luck so far.

Mr. Green, why does this loss of vigor seen in plants that are cloned for a long time happen? If there is no such thing as clonal drift, is it because with time the plant actually picks up diseases or somatic mutations?

I've never noticed clones showing any loss of vigor and i've personally maintained some for over 7 years. I doubt somatic mutations are very common, certainly they can pick up diseases but then just get a new cut of Rene from someone who didn't expose her to any diseases.
