If you want to go on the cheap, try creating a new account (with a new e-mail addy that YOU DO NOT USE FROM HOME) and loading your pics from the library or any other public comp.

Hey akabud, I have the same concerns, any precautions I can take I would like to do.

I thought about changing my ip address, but I have high-speed broadband internet and my ip address assigned by my local provider and I can't change it. I could if I called them and asked them to change it, but that would defeat the purpose.

As far as using a different email address, to open a new email account most companies require a corosponding (sp?) email address for administrative purposes. I think there is one company that doesn't, but I don't know which one it is. Anybody know?

Public computers, most places around here want identification information and note which computer you use and your usage time.

The best thing I can think of is to either get a phone line and use a foreign ip address(most convenient option but slow connection), or get (purchase in my case) a laptop, use a foreign ip address and go find a parking lot with an open wireless connection and use that.

I've posted some pics already and just said f it.

I'm open for any different or better suggestions.

Vidalia is your friend. There are some howto's guides if you can't figure it out.

First hop is secure crypto, plus multiple hops before decrypt at exit node.

Is it PERFECTLY safe? Assume it's not: nothing is with enough money/computing power behind it... but unless the [insert three-letter security/criminal agency of your country of origin here] are already targeting you, it's certainly better than no protection. Not everybody can crack SSL in a timely manner. Certainly nobody can bulk crack SSL streams for everyone. [gawd I hope not yet, lol]

It also tunnels the DNS lookups, which many other proxies don't.. (thus shooting yourself in the foot at the first hop).

If you're really paranoid, you can find an open AP as well and layer that on top.

just downloaded tor and read up about it on their site.

I would like to change my ip address though, can I do it through tor? From what I understand, tor encripts after my connection goes through my isp.

I just downloaded firefox and tor, then went to whatsmyipaddress and it showed my town. Am I just not getting it or what?

Sweet, its working!!!!

I just had to left click on the little tor button in the bottom right corner of screen. After that i went to whatsmyipaddress and it took a minute to download the page (good sign) and finally came up with a different ip address.

Another question for the security geniuses, should I start a new handle on this site and use a new email address that doesn't require and email address to set up?

Can they link further activity on this handle (untraceable) to initial activity (traceable) under the same handle(username)?

mac can be changed using freeware programs. (google: mac changer)

as for the ip, you could use a proxy, but you'll not be 100% safe even after that.

Hey akabud, when using firefox, if you downloaded the tor button add on with the tor download, at the bottom right of the screen it should say something like "enable tor" or "disable tor". With that button add on you can just turn it on or off by clicking the button.

You have a mac so I don't know if yours will look like mine.
