I say go with the 1000's. I am not all that happy with my 600's and had better results using 1000's and am going back to that

Fore sure. I am using a 600w right now, and I know I would be happier with 1000watters. And man Em, your grow is tight as hell. I am still trying to read threw the whole thread, but man, you inpire me. That is the ultimate dream grow. You ever look into solar/wind/generator power to reduce your elec. bill? You might not be too worried, but it would be cool to have a huge grow like that and not have to pay for electricity. And I hope all that crap going on with your partner's get's fixed. Happy growing.:joint:

Just some facts from a user of user of 4ft X 8ft trays: (I'm also in the 619, San Diego)

The trays are a little on the large side but can do a number of things for you if your using rockwool. If you veg through a 4 inch Rockwool cube, you can set it ontop of any rockwool slab and the plant will grow through the second rockwool slab all the way to the bottom.

In order to submerge the bottom Rockwool it takes exactly 45 gallons (for a few weeks) to get the water to 4 inches high in your tray. You should have a minimum of a 55 gallon reservoir to hold your nutrients. As the roots grow through the second set of Rockwool, after a couple weeks they will only need about 25 gallons during their feeding times for the rest of your harvest.

When doing your dimensions for your grow room, take in consideration the tray size AND the fact that your plants will grow left and right about a foot too. You need walking space on both sides of the tray or you WILL find yourself ducking under the plants when you want to get to one side or the other.

You can build your own custom frame to sit under the weight and hold the tray up, or you can just buy some sawhorses from Home Depot. Their $20 a pop and 3 sawhorses fit undedr the 4ft by 8ft tray perfectly.

Both ends of the tray need a 1/4 hole drilled through them for even fill and drain and occassionally all the water will not completely drain out so you want to have a shop vac on hand to sip up any small water left on the tray. (You don't want roots just sitting in still water, it will clog up the root system).

To accomodate the size of the tray, I had 2 light rails (both were 6ft) with 2-1000k HPS lights that were connected to a light mover. 1k light on the left rail, 1k light on the right rail with a motion mover that stopped on the end of the rail for 60 seconds. With 2, 1000k lights it managed to light the entire tray from middle, top and bottom.

The only good thing I can really say out of the entire large tray system is you can have 16 plants, or 48, or as many as you like at one time and space them all out accordingly in the middle. Each tray is good if your using 2, 1000k lights. You don't have to use a motion sensor and two thousies are enough to light the whole thing.

All in all, I would suggest the 4ft by 8ft tray but only for commercial growing. If you have any questions, just PM me. We might just be down the street from each other!
