i also think you should get a puppy from a shelter.. in bigger cities they can have all breeds, depending on what u decide. i voted pit only because i have one and think shes awesome. im sure most of the people who voted owned a dog of that breed.

Check out Cane Corsos, great natural protectors... dont have to train them to do so... great temperments and they dont drool like many of the mastiffs...

I second this, Cane Corso is a great dog. I personally like Neapolitan Mastiffs. They are the lions of dogs to me. I will always try to own a Neo for as long as I live. From your list though, I chose the Rotty. I love their temperament just as must as the Neo's. :joint:

Lab or better yet a free "lab hybrid" that needs to be rescued..

Rescued my lab/great dane (essentially a 130lb supersized lab) and am blessed with the sweetest sweetest dog....for free.

Smart as hell too, very lovable.

I agree! But if you feel you must I would go with the Shepard.

Bullmastiffs are great dogs, but in my experience there are breeds much better built for personal protection! My Mastiffs have always been/seemed way to laid back.

i can agree with this, my bullmastiff too is laid back, she is protective in that she will get inbetween you and whatever she deems is a threat but shes not a gaurd dog, i would go with a shepard for its intelligence or rottwieler for its territorial instincts, btw good to see you here medical
